I don't think one needs to think about tanking. Put together a team that is incapable of winning games, and they WON'T win games, regardless of how much they try. OTOH, put together a talented team, and there's no way they'll play badly, short of ditching Adelman and replacing him with Isiah Thomas.

No player will ever sacrifice his stats and future contracts by helping a team tank. You don't ever have to worry about that.

Spurs tanked to get TD, which led to 4 championships.

And we tanked to get Hakeem. But obviously, us Rockets fans would gladly trade Hakeem and 2 championships, 3 finals appearances, for several games of improvement in the 83-84 season. Who needs championships when you can have dignity!

look... if u think players are just going to give up... u got another thign coming. no one likes to lose let alone on purpose... everyone always wants to win, that is nature. it not about a"s long as u have fun.." mentailty... u have fun when ur creaming the other teams. so tanking wont happien espically with our teams competative players..

Ya'll are taking this all wrong. People have been talkin about tanking even before this pre season started.

We new deep down that Artest wasn't coming back & especially when the news came that Yao may be out for the season or even RETIRE it got worse.

We need to stick to our guys and root for them to win games and prove the critics that have us in the top 3, possibility, of next years draft.

If the season takes a turn for the worse which I doubt will happen that's when you losin up and get ready for the draft.
You don't get ready to pick in the top 5 before Summer League even starts!

    WHAT'S WRONG WIT YA'LL!

    1. Tanking do not mean deliberately losing games. It's more sophisticated than that.

    2. A top five pick is always better than a top ten, which is always better than a top 15, etc. The higher the pick, the more flexibility Morey has.

    3. A first round blowout accomplishes nothing.

Take a look at it this way, if we tank and get the worst of the lottery say around the 14th what'll be the point?

If we're playing well and are contenders with a bunch a role players that would help us in the negotiating for a proven star for Tracy's expiring swap. We could end up with a better player by giving our all and them helping us get to the next level.

Keep in mind that teams that are expecting to contend that don't in a small market will be at major revenue deficits and will be looking to cut costs....

    Just my thoughts though.

yes, and most of the other teams who tank get nobodies. it's rare to get the #1 pick and get a franchise player who turns their teams around immediately. for every duncan/hakeem/lebron/shaq, there's the joe smith, kwame browns, olowokandi...

unless there's a surefire superstar (john wall is the only closest one) and your team is for sure A BAD TEAM EVEN WHEN TRYING, which we aren't.

at worst, we'll be 10 games below .500 without tmac + yao. that's AT WORST.

You act like we can actually have a shot at making the playoffs... with the current roster.. HELL NO. This is the WESTERN CONFERENCE. You're going to need 45+ wins to get the 8th seed... that's not likely with this team...... we have a better shot at getting John Wall at this point then we do of getting the 8th seed.. hell if not John Wall.. then at least a top 5 pick... it just helps our chances better if we tank... we can't push for anything with this current roster... the league is just too good.

without mcgrady, at worst we'll be 10 games below .500. i think we'll hover around 5-7 games below. WITH mcgrady of even 07-08, we'll reach 50 wins EASILY.

morey knows we have no chance of getting a top 5 pick even without mcgrady. that's why he knows the other option is for a trade.

Hmm... I don't know what you're basing this on...

    1) This isn't the same team as past years.. we aren't going to win 22 straight again..

    2) We don't know how McGrady is going to be....

    3) We don't know WHEN McGrady is going to be back..

    4) Notice that I said as constructed today with all the presumed stuff that is supposed to happen (ex. McGrady expected to miss first month or two) so with this currently built team... you expect us to be 10 below .500...? This is the NBA... and most importantly the western conference... none of these games will be easy at all.. none... I don't know where our interior defense is going to come from.. we have a bunch of young players.. what do you think is going to happen? We can't make the ******* playoffs with this current team.. it's not that hard to realize or figure out...and pardon me for being a demoralized b**** about it... but that's the bottom line.. you can't hide that with this current team.. We've had our luck streaks/great moments in the past... but it doesn't always work..

    5) And people want to get into the playoffs as a lower seed to do what? lose in the first round again? It's bound to happen... unless we get a trade here.. without Yao.. we aren't going anywhere in the playoffs.... it'll be a waste of time, you get experience... but it's not like we really need first round experience..

You might want to look into the NBA lottery system a bit more.

    Hello, no!

Those millionaire players better give their best effort otherwise they don't deserve to be on this team, or their next contract.
