Scottie Pippen had far better ball handling and playmaking ability than Ariza.
There is almost no chance of Trevor reaching that level on offense.
Pippen quit on us without a doubt, but he led them to within a game of knocking the Knicks out in the Eastern Conference semi-finals. He was their best
    player at the time.

If the team is truly experimenting then this season, then I think experimentation should be happening with everybody on the team not just Ariza. I think Ariza has gotten his fill of experimentation.

I think the team should see what happens when they run the offense through Landry, see where that goes, they're probably gonna start doubling him more and they have to see what they can do to counter it.

If battier could at least try to score 12-20 points we would be ok. Unfortunately, people are stupid to blame the wrong people. Ariza takes alot of shots. I wonder why?

Morey: "Trevor Ariza is the next Scottie Pippen."

    Phil Jackson: "No he's not."

Morey: "What makes you say that?"

Phil Jackson: "I coached the old Scottie Pippen."

    Morey: "Oh." :(

Any of you guys thought Ariza might just be tired from playing back to back? 3 games in 4 days?

I've yet to see the Sixers Raptors game, don't know whose Ariza's defensive assignment was. Could it be Ariza was forced to work on the defensive end and ran out of gas?

I find the Ariza bashing quite hilarious after so many folks were ready to hand the team over to him in the offseason.

Who says the Rockets wanted him to be "the star?" He makes less than 6 million a year, he was always meant to be a piece of the puzzle and of course this year when Yao is out and T-mac is who knows what, his role is bigger by necessity because they weren't going to find a star/number 1 or 2 option kind of player this year.

A lot of Ariza's struggles have to do with the fact that there is no one else to draw the defense away. There is no T-mac, Kobe, Yao....no one to create space.

And he's really struggling with basically playing the Shooting Guard role.

It's a very tough position to play because you have to have one of three things, preferably more:

    1. Ability to dribble penetrate
    2. Solid outside shooting
    3. Good passer
    4. Ability to create a shot on the perimeter

Ariza came in with number 2 being his best and number 1 being his weakest. He hasn't shown that he can do 1 consistently. So really, for him to be an effective threat, he needs to start passing.

I think it also shows what a tough job T-mac had in past seasons.

No it shows that Ariza is NOT a star player. He just puts up numbers on a team with no stars because he can. Regardless of space, if you jack up enough shots you are bound to score, which is what I said he would be doing here all season.

Ariza has never been a solid outside shooter. His forte has always been limited to slashing and defending.

Thought I alluded that point in my post.

The biggest problem is that they both play the same position... Ariza is a 3 not a 2 and that along with the other pressure that's on him is starting to wear him down.

LOL! At least the "Ariza and Brooks for all-star" hype has gone away but you guys are inconsiderate. This team has two, maybe three ball-handlers playing right now in Brooks, Lowry and possibly Ariza. These are the only guys I'd feel comfortable handling the ball on a majority of possessions. The only go to guy we've got is Landry and he is not a ball-handler. And outside Landry, Scola and Andersen (for the most part), everyone else seems to enjoy jacking up threes.

slashing is more of a small forward skill then a shooting guard skill.

Ariza is doing ok as a scorer - considering he shoots primarily 3 pointers from the perimeter...at a 34% clip. That's not great, but it's not terrible. It's just high enough to make all those treys he jacks up worth it.

He's clearly struggling right now...but I expect he will benefit a lot playing along side T-mac.

Ariza ain't going nowhere, he's our future. Get used to him and his awfulness!

Until Budinger gets a couple years under his belt.

It's true that Ariza isn't an ideal go-to player, but keep in mind the Rockets will have Yao, and possibly T-Mac, back eventually, and Ariza won't have the same role. This thread smacks of the typical knee-jerk mentality of people on this BBS. A player has one bad game and all of a sudden the sky is falling. It's always as if the last game played is the only one the player played in this year. Talk about short-term memory. Why didn't we see this kind of thread after, say, the game Ariza had a few nights ago, when he shot the lights out?

Rafer's shooting as a Rocket his last 3 years here:

    06-07 FG% 0.375 3-PT% 0.363 TO's 2.2
    07-08 FG% 0.394 3-PT% 0.351 TO's 1.8
    08-09 FG% 0.385 3-PT% 0.338 TO's 1.8

    Ariza's shooting as a Rocket:

    09-00 FG% 0.392 3-PT% 0.345 TO's 2.5

Please explain to me again how Ariza jacking up shots is worth it, but when Rafer did it, it was a sign he had be deported?

I really think that he should reduce his shots, and get better shot selection, hell if he doesn't have good look don't even shoot it, but at the same time the only way he can get better if he keep trying and working hard.

And today he let his emotions get the best of him, I know it was a dirty play, but forget about it and move on, I think he'll develop as go to guy durring the season, we'll have to wait, and am pretty sure he can be a star.

The fact was there were a bunch of no-calls by the refs where the Rockets were clearly getting hammered by the Raptors. The play with Scola under the rim right before DeWhatHisName stole the ball from Ariza, Scola got fouled about 4 or 5 times there with no call. So Ariza was pissed obviously.

Because you are using data for Ariza for 23 or so games, hardly worth even comparing to 3 seasons of Rafer at this point. This comparison is dumb.
