The Houston Houstonians The Republic of China National Team The Houston Carpet Munchers The Southeast Texas Gulf Stream The Houston Humble Hakeems
For pure puns we could name them the Houston Hands -- would give new meaning to palming, hands on coaching, hands off refereeing, fingers, thumbs, pinkies, etc. etc.
obviously the name 'rockets' wasn't always nasa related, but it fits perfectly with our city. the astros also fit in with our city, and i would have liked for the texans to have received a space themed name as well. if the team name is too controversial due to violence, let's change the name to something that is sure to be more controversial. it took until post 72 for this name to come up, but it totally agree. obviously, change the soccer ball to a basketball
If you along that line, I would rather go with... Weapons of Mass Seductions (with Power Dancers on the logo) Abbreviated as...
Dammit, rimster, that's what I was going to suggest! I'd do it just to screw with McNair, who picked such a god-awful name for the Replacement Oilers. It was like McNair was afraid no one knew which state Houston was in, the idiot. The Texians has history. People would wonder where the name originated. When told that was the original moniker of those who lived and fought during our revolutionary days (including at least one ancestor of mine, who's name is on the San Jacinto monument), maybe they would learn a little of our great history. Otherwise, Clutch's Houston Problems. Hilarious and the possible rifs off of that are endless! I controlled myself and didn't go with the obvious... The Houston Blade Runners The Houston Replicants The Houston Roy Battys. and I might modestly suggest, The Houston Deckards!
These are all good, but since we're nodding to recent events as well, how about using what the Wizards gave up - in honor of Carl "Teeth" Landry: Houston Bullets (or Targets)
Anyone remember the Oakland Oaks from the Rick Barry/ABA days? I always thought that the Houston Oaks would be fine name...
