We haven't been to Fredericksburg since the pandemic started, but ordinarily went 2 or 3 times a year from Austin, staying a few days at a cabin outside of town on at least one of those trips. It's the perfect distance from Austin for a getaway, and has to have lots of appeal for all the hundreds of thousands of people (help!) pouring into Austin the last few years. For those not familiar with Fredericksburg, there are wineries surrounding the city, many with a presence in town, shops, galleries, restaurants (German food!), the National Museum of the Pacific War (excellent). We love the place. I think the demographic is going to change. Sure, traditionally it's been a retirement destination, but a lot of those newcomers to Austin are going to think pied-à-terre in or outside of the town after they've visited Fredericksburg, in my opinion. Likely, it's happening already. I hope it doesn't change the character of the place too much, but with the way Austin's growing, that's probably inevitable. Looks like the city might be attempting to address some of this. Checked the city's website and they are making some changes to their short term rental ordinances. If you haven't already, Buck, you might want to look into that. https://www.fbgtx.org/1091/DRAFT-STR-Ordinance Keep us up to date! I think they could use that kind of a bar.
