I just recently learned that there's a joint in Austin, I think Rainey Street, called Pour Choices, which is brilliant. Cocktail bar attached to a restaurant in Fredericksburg, in theory. It's a beer and wine town, but there is a niche for a proper drink spot. I don't want to deal with Austin, it's oversaturated anyway. This is playmoney fun time, so "can't take it with you" kind of stuff. I've already done and gone a lakehouse and a boat, so I'm looking at things that might keep me interested for a couple of years.
Good idea for Galveston or Surfside...put a bunch of surfboards and Annette Funachelo crap on the walls and call it BAR BAR ANNE
OK At least I had the concept of Central Texas correct in that a roundtrip isn't a pain when compared to going to DFW, Houston or San Antonio. How would you describe the potential customer base? Are there some retirees with money to spend who would want to be in that type of atmosphere? I know not the same percentage of retirees as in Georgetown, but aren't there a few more than in other towns somewhat removed from metro areas?
Jillions of tourists with money. And the locals ain't poor either. Ever been to the Gage Hotel/Bar in Marathon, TX? We're thinking the same atmosphere on a smaller scale.
I had to do a rethink with the mention of tourists. Similar to those that like Brenham - Chappell Hill or with fatter wallets?
Nah, but I know people who can’t get enough of it. I think a bar that caters to the local vibe is always money in a tourist area. Location is king, though. And I think being popular with locals will keep you in business in down season. Id love to be a partner in a bar/restaurant in Galveston some day. I just don’t want to be a working owner.
