Gortat was restricted, the Magic were going to match any offer, he didn't spurn the rockets, he wanted to leave Orlando.

I would be willing to give up Jordan Hill or Patterson and a 1st Round Pick, Gortat has played very limited minutes behind Howard, but his numbers in his limited time and in his few starts were great for a guy only making mid-level money. Considering he is perfect for our only real hole in the roster.

    Per 36 Minutes
    10.3 PPG
    12.0 RPG
    2.3 BPG
    55% FG%

I think Jordan Hill has a good future, but I don't see major star potential, and i think Patterson can replace him. I think Budinger does have borderline star potential so i don't think I would part with him so easily. Our picks, not the Knicks, at least not next years NY pick. Amare is overratted and they will suck at least one more year.

I'll give up one of these guys or a combination of the guys here: David Andersen, Battier, JJ, Pat Pat, Chuck Hayes and/or fillers(Alexander Johnson and Mike Harris). Also Llull if they want his rights and maybe a 2nd round pick.

NOTHING... i wouldnt do a trade for him.

Like many posters have already said...he didnt wanna give him the full MLE last year, why would things be different this year?

I'd rather take my chances with Jordan Hill as the backup C. He may not be the ideal center, but with a 6'10 frame, and 7'0 wingspan, i'll take my chances with that.

I think Jordan Hill has the potential to be an Alonza Mourning type player. He probably wont block as many shots, but he'll show major improvements this year.

It wont be surprising to see him average around 10ppg/6rpg/1bpg off the bench this year.

Yup... not worth giving up our assets to bring in another mediocre (at best) player.

Maybe Morey thinks he made a mistake. GMs (at least the good ones) have to think on multiple levels and several steps ahead. It is entirely possible that Morey, knowing that Orlando was going to match any offer intentionally lowballed in order not to get shut out for a full year. You have to remember that Gortat was Morey’s midnight FA visit last year. Not Ariza. It seems ludicrous that he would go through all of that trouble and still only offer a partial MLE. But had Gortat signed the Rockets’ offer, which would then be matched by Orlando, even with Gortat’s consent, he could not be traded to the Rockets for a year. By going to Gortat and making his presentation, it allowed Morey to let him know that the Rockets were interested and gave him a chance to lay out their plan. But by not having sign an offer sheet from the Rockets, he still could have been dealt to them later in the year. The opportunity never materialized, but at least it was there.

All of the “Morey didn’t think he was good enough last year, so what has changed?” talk is not really relevant. Morey saw enough in Gortat to make him the midnight priority as free agency opened last year. The fact is Orlando saw the potential in Gortat despite not having enough minutes for him that they were going to match whatever he was offered (much like Lowry and Scola for us). I think it is very likely that Morey knew this and didn’t want to get shut out for a year.

There is also the possibility that Morey was already working on the Ariza deal and valued him ahead of Gortat. Had he been able to get Gortat for less than the full MLE, he might have sacrificed Ariza, but if it was an either/or scenario then Ariza was his guy. There are many different reasons that could be given for why Gortat was not acquired last year, but anyone who thinks this team would not have been in the playoffs had we had him instead of a 6’6” Chuck Hayes is just being foolish.

So, I would give that for Gortat. Battier is a productive player that Orlando could use for a year with an expiring contract, so I would even do that. Either way, Jeffries is buried on this team and Battier is a bit redundant. Backup Center is a position of serious need on this team, so why not put the money to actual use? Not sure what it would take beyond that, but I’d be willing to throw in a pick as well.

Which stats best suit us...i like the idea of making a small move to get chandler and then using assets like brooks/hill and picks for CP3 or Granger or melo.

    Lowry CP3/Lowry
    Martin martin
    Granger OR MELO or Battier/ariza
    Scola/PP Scola/pp
    Ming/Chandler Ming/Chandler or OKAFOR

Gortats athleticism and size would actually be ideal for a Pf position, i wonder if we could convince him to move positions?

The deal that would have gotten us Chandler is gone. His salary is twice what Gortat's is for lesser production (according to your figures). What are you suggesting we give up for Chandler?

Jeffries for Gortat + a pick sounds about right to me. I know Orlando wouldn't do it. But that's all I'm willing to give up for an overrated player like Gortat
