Just another in a growing list of JVG complaints. Bad offense, questionable substitutions, questioning pick-n-roll defensive strategy, the inability to inspire, inability to get calls for his star players, etc.

To be fair, looking at the stats, Yao's FT #s aren't down that much. But he clearly is on the wrong end of a bad call more than the other way around. Plus, Tracy's FT's are down this year, too. The dude shot the ball 36 times against Dallas and went to the line 7 times. Below are some interesting stats.

    Yao's FTs

    2004/05 Season To Date
    FTA/Game = 5.76
    FTA/Min = 0.18
    FTA/Shot Attempt = .44

    2003/04 Season
    FTA/Game = 5.44
    FTA/Min = 0.17
    FTA/Shot Attempt = .44

    2002/03 Season
    FTA/Game = 4.52
    FTA/Min = 0.16
    FTA/Shot Attempt = .46

    TMac's FTs

    2004/05 Season To Date
    FTA/Game = 7.0
    FTA/Min = 0.17
    FTA/Shot Attempt = .39

    2003/04 Season
    FTA/Game = 7.46
    FTA/Min = 0.19
    FTA/Shot Attempt = .32

    2002/03 Season
    FTA/Game = 9.68
    FTA/Min = 0.25
    FTA/Shot Attempt = .40

    TMac's FTs

    Shaquilled O'neal Career Average
    FTA/Game = 10.54
    FTA/Min = 0.28
    FTA/Shot Attempt = .57

    Tim Duncan Career Average
    FTA/Game = 7.79
    FTA/Min = 0.20
    FTA/Shot Attempt = .46

We're not getting our share of deserved calls. Period.

I remember Norwitzky got to shoot like 20 something free throws in the last game against Mavericks.

I agreed with you that Yao should be more aggressive. All I'm saying is that he won't be yelling at people or go after another player physically because the way he's raised and he clearly want to carry himself in the right way in Chinese people's view. American would think it's OK to fight and hit somebody back after you're been attacked, it's just different culture.

I disagree with you here. Yao is representing the people of China in an extremely positive light. He is not hopping to bed with 4 women at a time and having babies by all of them, and he is not a thug on the basketball court. He is not lying before grand juries about getting paid money to play college ball. He is not smoking dope. He is not going into the stands to fight fans. He does not avoid his fans. He makes time for the fans, the media, and almost everybody that wants a piece of him. He's a clean player, an extremely talented player and he's not soft. He has played through injuries, boos, bad calls, and rough play by his opponents. And he does represent the largest population of people on this planet. He came to America, and couldn't speak English, learned the language, and learned the NBA game. He bulked up when they told him he was too skinny. He spent his whole offseason with a trainer following him around, helping him increase size and muscle mass. He has deferred gladly to Steve Francis and Tracy McGrady. He isn't selfish. He doesn't get pissed when somebody else on the team outscores him. He is a team player. His goals are team oriented and nationally oriented. But he refuses to be a thug, he refuses to be a punk, he refuses to be a smart mouth, he refuses to cover his body with disgusting tatooes, he refuses to wear pigtails, he refuses to quit and sit out games when he is hurting. Basically, he refuses to be the negative image of American Sports. I don't begrudge him that one bit.

Somebody on this team should realize who he is and what he is and have his back, Mister Van Gundy.

It would be nice to see JVG get a tech for yao but it would be even niver if Yao got one for himself. Even if he did an intentional fragent foul I would be happy.

He doesnt need to sleep with several women, have multiple kids, do drugs, get arrested, or even get tatoos. All he has to do is stand up for himself...i.e. get a tech or swing some elbows or get a fragrent foul. Do SOMETHING to show that people cant push him around all over the floor and beat him up on a nightly basis.

Dont get me wrong i do agree that Van Grumpy could help out by picking up a tech for Yao but i dont think that would be as effective as Yao doing it himself.

I think it is a pretty sad state of affairs in the NBA that a man has to get into a fight to get the referees to call the game fair and square.

Picking up a tech or getting a fragrent foul does not equal getting into a fight. i am looking (and hoping for) for more emotion out of him. Like what he said and did in the olympics. Iam not looking for him to become Ron Artest, Rodman, or R. Wallace.

But those are the players that get the techs my friend, the super hyper agressive player that goes overboard.
