This season, they are over the cap but under the estimated LTax. No advantage to a capwise trade for this season only (ie Brandon's medical "retirement") at this point. The Pistons are committed to ~$37.8m for 2004-05. The only way to lower this figure is to get a player of similar productivity, with a similar contract for matching purposes and that contract has to expire next summer (or the following 2005). IMO, since Wallace never exceeds $6.5m and only has 3 more seasons himself (summer 2006), his one dimensional play is the driver, not cap space.
