We need a Rudy Fernandez type player. He brings energy, good shooting, he's unselfish, and he doesn't demand the ball to be in his hands to be effective.

We should try to get to Deke to a contender so he can retire with a ring.

Another option, while not the most popular one, could be trading Artest for expiring contract and 1st round pick (we dont have one next year). With the emergence of our role players, and healthy Yao and TMAC, unless Artest plays like a Bruce Bowen for the rest of the year, it might be good addition by subtraction. A team like New Jersey, or similar teams on cusp of playoffs, might be able to use a guy like Artest. If we can get a 1st round pick out of it, maybe around the teens, it might be worth it. Not that I have given up on Artest, but lets face it. Half the year is over, there are chemistry issues, and in all likelihood he will not be a Rocket next year. Also, honestly, an Artest putting up 15 + shots will also not help us go deep. Unless he can turn into a defensive specialist / spot scoring forward off the bench, I'd consider trading him for a pick.

Yeah Great idea. Trade away our best playmaker and get back someone who is horrible and can't play with Yao.

Call me crazy but the weakest link on the team is Rafer and i like skip but he is the one that needs to go. Ramon Felton needs to be here. Steve Blake or Juan Dixon. Steve Blake maybe a long shot but we need a pg who knows how to run a team. Yao McGrady and Artest are superstars and Rafer tries to play like he is a superstar. Offensive rebound a new shot clock and there he goes shooting the ball quick instead of resetting. It would be nice if he actually makes more shots than he misses but come on. Rafer and Head for a decent pg.

It's too bad Miller has an injured ankle...he hasn't been playing very well at all lately. I still would trade for him though.

I really think the best chance they have at getting something to help us now is Sean Williams+Vince Carter for Tmac. Like I said in another thread, Tmac's contract comes off the books in 2010 and the Net's have no shot at Lebron if they get stuck with his contract so this would give them a box office draw until 2010 when the drop him to pursue Lebron/move to Brooklyn.

You may ask why they wouldn't wait till the offseason for a trade like that. In short, right now McGrady's contract looks awful to most teams but at the end of the year, his expiring contract will get Houston many more suitors. This means that it's probably in the Net's best interest to move Carter now before there is more competition for Tmac's expiring contract. Right now Carter is really only desirable to teams who either have no legit star or those who have a 3-4 yr window to compete and that market is relatively small. Assuming a team with no legit star probably doesn't have too many attractive pieces, that leaves the 3-4 yr window group: Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, , maybe Detroit, and maybe San Antonio (although they probably wouldn't want him). When you consider the trade pieces those teams have to offer in return, McGrady is the best of the lot.

If the Rockets could pull that off AND trade Artest for some role player somewhere, we could be in pretty good shape this year.

Artest/Head for Camby/2nd rounder

Yao
Camby
Battier
McGrady
Alston

bench rotation:
Scola
Landry
Brooks
Wafer/Barry

Defense improves dramatically. Camby might be a soft one on one defender but he is the help defender Yao needs. He also provides added length. You also add a legit back up 5 to spell Yao. His contract expires before 2010 so it's win now.
