True, but that was a draft that any one of 6 or 7 guys could have gone #1....the Bulls knew they would end up with 2 studs (or hoped so anyway) after those picks....I dont see a team giving up a guy like Brand or Rahim (brand was traded for the #2 and Rahim for the #3) for the opportunity to draft Qyntel Woods or Amare Stoudmire...

...then again, I was pissed when we passed up Harold Minor for Robert Horry so what the heck do i know about the draft

The only way I do the Duncan thing is if he agrees to an extension at the time of the trade. Personally, I would try to unload Cato, Taylor, and Griffin and that pick for Duncan and their pick only if Duncan would agree to an extension. If he doesn't, he might walk and we're left with nothing but cap room, which isn't bad either.

Actually NJRocket, because there are 2 (Ming & Williams), probably 3 (Woods) players that could be clear cut #1s, the demand for the #1 pick this year could be through the roof.

And the fact that the 2 'sure bets' play the 2 toughest, thinnest positions in the league (PG & C), there should be a line around the corner for these 2.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if even the established teams like the Lakers or Kings offered a package for at least 1 of these guys, they're that highly thought of.

I vote for Option #1 or A. The Rocks are in bad need for a low-post scorer to add balance to the offense, and aside from Gooden and Ming?, that player isn't available in this draft (so far). As far as who's available via trade,... good question.

Yes, perhaps there are 3 guys worthy of the #1 pick....however, aside from Jason Williams the other 2 are far from "sure things"...Ming may be stuck eating without silverware until the chinese let him out fo the country and Woods, while his write-ups have been great, is sort of an unknown commodity.

Last year, Kwame Brown, Eddy Curry, Tyson Chandler, Shane Battier, Pau Gasol or Eddie Griffin were all tabbed as a serious candidate to be the #1 overall selection. This year, I think Jason Williams is clearly the #1 pick unless they let Lebron James declare as a high school junior.

Im not saying that Curry et al ended up making the splash that Francis, Brand , Baron Davis etc did in their 1st year but the difference between the guys at the top of last years draft was a slight one whereas , IMO, there is a big difference between Williams and Woods etc.

WOW...i just realized that the Griz could have a starting lineup of Francis, Bibby, Gasol (or Rahim), Battier and Lo Wright if Stevie stayed...

Houston trades: SF Glen Rice (8.6 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 1.6 apg in 30.3 minutes)
PF Jason Collier (3.0 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 0.4 apg in 10.8 minutes)
PF Kenny Thomas (14.3 ppg, 7.2 rpg, 2.0 apg in 35.0 minutes)

    & the #1 pick

Houston receives: PF Antonio McDyess (11.3 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.8 apg in 23.6 minutes)

    TRADE ACCEPTED

    that's what i'd do.

    then i'd run with

    PG: steve francis
    SG: cat mobley
    SF: eddie griffin
    PF: antonio mcdyess
    C: kelvin cato

we'd have an inside scoring prescence, and our interior defense would be absolutely phenomenal.

For the record, Memphis pick is top 5 protected this year and only 1st overall next year (not top 3), NBADraft.net is wrong.

Anyway, unless the scouts believe Ming is the second coming, a trade seems like a good idea. Jason Williams is a great prospect, but the one thing the Rocks don't need is another guard.

Personally, I'd try and dump a bad contract (Rice or Taylor or Cato) on someone and move down a few spots.

you want the Clippers to give up a young player with tons of potential... and then pay glen rice 17 million dollars... for leadership
i know you said it'll never happen but man... it'll NEVER happen

    tbl,

Packaged with the number one pick, they definitely would bite on it.

They can keep Kandi and get Jason Willams. They can let Kandi go (sign n trade?) and get Yao Ming. They can trade Piatowski and Maggette and get Woods.

    Look at the possibilities:

    Kandi
    Brand
    Miles
    Q Richardson
    Jason Williams

    or

    Ming
    Brand
    Miles
    Q Rich
    Mcinnis

    or

    Kandi
    Brand
    Miles
    Q Rich
    Mcinnis

bench: Qyntel Woods, Corey Maggette, Piatowski, and Dooling.

They need another scorer. One more franchise player. Odom doesn't fit in well over there. But Jason Willliams?

I'd definitely look at trading it.

Lamar Odom is a wonderful option, and if we could get rid of Rice in the process, that would be a nice bonus.
