Seen a lot of people highlighting our need for a three point specialist/shooter off the bench. I think Terrence Ross is that guy. Normally acquiring a player such as him would be a pipe dream, but the Raptors flunked out of the playoffs and Ross found himself out of the starting line up towards the end of the regular season and experienced spotty minutes and inconsistent play. In saying that, he's an above average shooter from deep and I believe he has the ability to become elite from downtown. Last season he hit 161 threes on 39.5% and this season he knocked down another 145 on 37%. I am not 100% sure what it would take to get him, and although he doesn't fix our issues at PG, I believe he would be easily acquired (unlike some other targets) and would go along way to improving our three point shooting. Just imagine all the open looks he'd get off Harden collapsing the defense. He doesn't add a whole lot else, he's shown he can play average to above average defense. I think he would be a perfect fit for the team and we all know how athletic he is (fits in Morey's Three or Layup philosophy).
Always liked him. Good scorer and great athlete. Kind of under the radar right now and they already have DeRozan.
IMO, it would be better to target some veteran free agent 3 point shooter. Belinelli will be a free agent, I'm sure there are several more good ones, I didn't check the list. Ross is an ok 3 point shooter, but there's not much else. Defense is pretty bad. Not a very smart player, not a hard worker. Soft. Maybe there's some potential, but who knows. Besides, you would have to trade with Masai Ujiri, so I doubt you would get a bargain.
I dont want Ross. He is SOFT. Avoids contact like the plague and fails to use his athleticism. His defence gets worse any year. Every playoffs he dissapears completely. He is lazy and avoids practices. He is more interested in banging groupies playing videogames and fighting in social media with fans than practising. Next year he needs to be paid too. Now, putting aside my opinion and to answer the op opinion there is a rumour circulating for weeks that ross is headed to chicago for taj. It would take a better offer than that to get Masai to trade him here.
Yeah. I got links. The raps are a team that everything that happens ends up in the press. Here is one forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?t=1367774 there are many more burried in that form.
Thanks. Although there's a difference between leaving early and avoiding practices. But still no good sign, didn't know about this yet. Explains why he regressed every season.
Jones and Ross went to HS together, they're apparently best friends. Would be ideal to get Ross here without moving Jones
There are more like this if you search in the raps forum.. He is just a lazy player. Sadly. Maybe a trade will be a wake up call for him and get him back in the right road.
I remember even a couple summers ago Casey and I think some teammates questioning if Ross wants to be good (diplomatically). I think Terrence Jones and some pick might be enough. I don't know. Raptors don't really need Terrence Jones, they need a good starting SF first of all, and a good defensive big man. But in terms of assets, I think that's a pretty good trade for the Raptors. I don't think I would do that trade for the Rockets. It depends on Jones' health and what type of pick. In that trade you lose some salary room, a pick, and you exchange one young player for another young player, different positions, but they both have similar weaknesses.
Thanks for some background info, but smoove had similar complaints and a bad rap and look how he turned out. I think Ross would be great here.
The simple fact that Ross is rumored to be moved for Taj shows how good Ross can be and how other GM's may value him. All the things you mentioned should hurt his stock and bring down the asking price.... Clearly not the case of the rumor has any steam behind it. Which I can believe as I mentioned I like Ross. We'd have to give up quite a bit to land a player like Taj.
The differen is everyone knew that Smith was a good allround-player and capable of way better performances if he'd show the right mindset. Ross hasn't shown anything besides very inconsistent shooting.
Bit harsh. In his rookie and second year he showcased exceptional defense. He had a 50 point game (no matter how random it was) and he's shot over 37% from three the last two seasons. Dude can play.
And I remember this was Doc's guy in that year's draft. Lots of typical cryptic stuff and then after the draft didn't Doc come out and say it (that Ross was the target)? Some thought a trade-up was the plan to get MKG (IIRC) but there was some confirm by insiders that it was actually Ross, who was drafted ahead of us. I like it - but I'm an admitted blind-Morey follower.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if Taj was available for something like T.Jones + Papa's non guaranteed contract. Taj is becoming a luxury to the Bulls. He's likely to be their 4th best big man next year and 2nd highest paid. They will probably have to give max to Jimmy Butler, and their owner isn't one of the big spenders. Who knows though. Maybe that rumor isn't legit. But I think it makes some sense for the Bulls. They save a bunch of money, they get a chance to try Ross for a year. Ross does have physical tools to be more than he is right now. Maybe he could be turned around. If not, the Bulls would still have a trade exception that they could use for someone they need more than Gibson.
