Nah he'd sign Ryan Anderson to a $80M contract instead that arguably ends up being the reason we didn't win a trophy during the Harden era...we had $20M riding on the bench during the playoffs.
Bro one overpay doesnt invalidate all the other great things that Morey did. Chris Paul and Luc getting hurt are the reasons we dont have a championship. Yall are mad he left I get it, but blame the owner for that.
Did it? I must have missed all those rings. The only success Morey had was lucking into Harden. The closest we ever got we were still easy to shut down by the real contenders, we were predictable inflexible and bogged down by ideology. I'm not sure you can call it success when the legacy is one of coming up short and crumbling in the clutch. That's why it'll never work, Morey's number crunching has no way of measuring heart and willpower.
Quite a bit of scorn and vitriol in this thread for a man one injury away from being the undisputed greatest GM in Rockets history. Sengun and Garumba are both Morey-esque picks, probably goes with Mobley over Green and choses someone else entirely over J-Gup. The rebuild would still be going alright, not much would change considering how many guys in the FO are still Daryl's boys. I, like many others, blame Tillman for this utter collapse. A coin-flip gave us Hakeem, We had 10% odds to get Yao, a coin-flip kept us from picking #16. Luck is part of success in the NBA. Harden was held back in OKC, 6-MOTY while shooting 67% TS% at age 22 is insane, still one of the most efficient age 22 seasons in terms of WS/48 of all time (tied with Shaq and KAT, behind Amare' and CP3.). Harden was going to be a star regardless of where he went, whether he became an MVP caliber player was only up to James. Having "heart" and "willpower" doesn't make shots go in. Ask Westbrook. The 2017-18 Rockets aren't a sign of epic failure or a precautionary tale, they are a tragedy. No amount of Trevor Ariza and PJ Tucker mid-range jimbos would have saved the team, regardless of the revisionist historians of Clutchfans. Going up against that Warriors team was a battle between a turbocharged 4-banger vs a V-8 engine. Blaming the rockets being the forefront of NBA shot selection going forward is like blaming the turbocharger for why the 4-banger lost instead of the cylinder that exploded.
That's a hell of a lot of waffle trying to excuse missing 27 consecutive 3's because the entire philosophy was idiotic. Nice try though.
Considering all they had to do was make 4 of 27, I blame that on the players. Most of those looks were reasonably open too.
the utah jazz copied morey as did the atlanta hawks.. But morey cant do anything about the league being corrupt and rigging playoff series for teams who play the type of basketball they deem fit
I must have missed all that "heart" or "will power" that got anyone else close to beating the KD Warriors? Our strategy was fine, we needed just a little more talent and a better owner.
Rick the Ruler hated Daryl. Remember when he traded Shane Battier for Hasheem Thabeet when we were making a playoff push?? What an ******* lol
Reaching conference finals twice is not exactly "worked". During this time about 10 other teams have reached the Finals.
That doesnt take into account talent level, conference strength, injuries, its a very result oriented way of thinking that doesnt actually tell you anything.
trade away some draft capital to save the boss some money... end up using a mid 1st rd pick on a tweener...
