Starting Lineup C. Miller PF. Pat SF. Budinger SG. Ghost of Kevin Martin PG. Brooks Howard, Harden Lin all come off the bench
Give Rick adelman this roster and he would destroy other teams, the guy is great X and O kind of coach and he would get the best out of his players.
When JVG became the coach people lament the fact that our coach don't know squat about offense and how he's the most unimaginitive coach ever. When Adelman became coach people complained about how he doesn't know defense(following Yao's departure) and how the good ole days of JVG would've made the team better. When McHale became head coach... well, you get the idea. Adelman threads towards the end of his tenure here en route to yet another .500 record aren't nearly as glowing as this thread.
He will Start LIN and AB as sixth man. Beverly will see no playing time. TT will not be experimented. Howard + Donuts will be the front court.
He would still have Kevin Martin on this team. Boy, how quickly people forget. We called him Coach Sleepy for a reason. He was stubborn with his loyalty to starters, even when the bench players were playing better. He also was so slow in making in-game adjustments. His offensive system allowed players to play to their own strengths. Finch is actually running some aspects of that system with us--the read-and-react. However we don't have the high-post passing big but we have a lot of dribble-drive. We are adjusting it to the perceived strengths of our players and the mantra of 3pt shooting, shots at the rim and transition.
Actually the read-and-react offense requires players with high basketball IQ. The reason why guys like Lowry, Scola, Hayes, battier etc. floursihed in our system. That may also be the reason why it's taking a lot more time for our current players to get it. It requires a lot of trust and quick decision-making, almost instinctive. The reason why Howard and Asik look so clumsy out there and Harden so far still finds it difficult to trust teammates. I don't think he's selfish in his ISOs; he will pass if he trusts that you can score.
I don't get why people criticize Adelman for bringing in his players when under JVG we had the likes of Mark Jackson and Clarence Weatherspoon playing here.
This current team wouldn't be a good fit with the Adelman system IMO. it lacks primary wing scorers who play off the ball, as well as a passing big man with an outside shooting touch to spread the court and keep the ball moving. I'm sure Adelman would adjust to take advantage of the roster and somehow make it work, but as it stands, it doesn't strike me as an Adelman-type team.
