"Skip to My Lou" was his streetball nickname. He picked up that name from his tendency to skip when he dribbled. The name itself is the title of a children's song from way back in the day.
How many of you traded Alston on your video game as soon as you could and start Brooks? My backcourt of Brooks and Francis as dual PG's on the lastes NBAYK is off the charts
Aaron Brooks is a better PG than Rafer so I feel it's a good move for morey to trade rafer away, just like the other moves he has made as GM. but i'm still glad to see rafer's coming back, because he is gonna bring us a win over the Magic.
I have nothing against Rafer...wish him the best. I never was a huge fan, but he's a solid player and I have nothing against him. But I don't miss his drives to the hoop I would cheer for him in introductions if I went to the game
I would applaude him. I didn't like him much as a player, I didn't hate him, but he gave us (among some others) 22! Anyways, I wish he takes as many tear drops as he can and as many threes as he can
The same Rafer Alston that people were wishing we had for the Jazz series not even a year ago? Man how the human mind works, the guy is in the bottom 10 percentile of starting PGs in talent, what do you expect him to do? I'd give him a round of applause and let it go, like most normal people.
come on guys. you are harsh. This thread ain't that useless. It's an interesting dicussion for those going to watch the game live.
I agree with this... it's not like Rafer wasn't doing what he was asked to do. He would have made a fine backup, but he was put in a situation to play heavy minutes and the Rockets were always at a disadvantage as a result as far as winning the title went. It was frustrating to watch much of the time. Many overcredited Rafer for the team success, especially when we saw what the team did when Luther Head played in his stead, and started to think he was a top 5-10 point or was uniquely qualified (borderline irreplaceable) on this team. Not Rafer's fault though -- the failure was on the organization for running him out there 4 seasons. In fairness, the team tried to replace him in 2008 and both players (Francis/James) dropped like a two ton heavy thing. If you should be bitter at anyone, it should be at them. In my opinion though, the T-Mac/Yao era was wasted at this position when they could have gotten someone who was much better suited to compliment T-Mac's playmaking skills in the halfcourt. Watching the Cavs blast off after plugging in a hybrid point (Mo Williams) next to a similar playmaking wing (LeBron James) should be a painful reminder.
before joining our team, rafer was just a mediocre PG wandering among scrub teams. I think Rafer should show some appreciation for our team instead.
