This is the kind of non-response liberals give to an honest question. It is fair to attack Palin's family, even to the point of demanding a DNA test to determine parenthood. The press hasn't asked Obama or Biden for a DNA test to determine their parenthood. A half-brother is blood. Why is there a dichotomy of responsiblity attributed to one family but not the other -- unless someone here wants to admit the overt sexism the left is showing?
NO, YOU SHOULD SEE! Are you really arguing about how he starts a sentence? The next line he says 'I' and the comment even talks about his own personal perspective on the matter. You're 100% just trying to derail this thread at this point.
I'm the one who pointed out that DaDakota is the only poster so far in this thread that listed some of Obama's positions. I don't think most of us know off the top of our heads without going to a website to copy the answers. Edit: See below. Good job, hippieloser. This is only one issue, but it's a start. This is what we should be exploring, rather than families. I just wanted to make some posters see how one-sided they are becoming.[/QUOTE]
This graphic helped me understand the candidates' positions on tax reform. I got it from the Washington Post: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/06/09/ST2008060900950.html According to this data, Obama will save me $892 in taxes whereas McCain would save me $113. I'm right in that "60% of Taxpayers" sweet spot. Maybe it will help others: Obama and McCain Tax Proposals According to a new analysis by the Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution, Democrat Barack Obama and Republican John McCain are both proposing tax plans that would result in cuts for most American families. Obama's plan gives the biggest cuts to those who make the least, while McCain would give the largest cuts to the very wealthy. For the approximately 147,000 families that make up the top 0.1 percent of the income scale, the difference between the two plans is stark. While McCain offers a $269,364 tax cut, Obama would raise their taxes, on average, by $701,885 - a difference of nearly $1 million.
First, it's unfair to attack anyone's family, and I think there's altogether too much attention paid to the personal lives of the candidates. However, there's a huge difference between scrutinizing Palin's relationship as a mother to her daughter, and Obama's relationship with his half-brother. Palin is selling herself as a family values candidate, and the McCain campaign turned her motherhood into a central topic at her introduction. Further, the nature of the mother-daughter relationship and the responsibilities that go with it simply can not be compared to that between two half-brothers who hardly know each other.
Obama has alluded several times to family values and trots out his daughters to prove how family-oriented he is. I'm actually for Obama, but all this pot calling the kettle black really steams me.
It is snark, because a bs question like that deserves snark. I actually do think it is fair to attack her family, but who is attacking her family? Obama and Biden have denounced the attacks on her. A random kos diary was denounced by the kos community. Sullivan talked about it.... yeah, lets tar and feather him. The CONSERVATIVE Sullivan. The press are attacking Palin? If you call doing their job attacking, then great. They haven't bothered to do their job since Reverend Wright. Everything about her is being questioned. Why? Because she's an unknown, and so far there has been a lie or exaggeration about her credential/history. Part of the validation of Palin as a candidate was based on her family. People then asked about the family. Facts were announced. Just because those facts weren't what she wanted announced, doesn't mean they were attacks. We would have no idea about the daughter, except PALIN announced it. Shocking that it would then be reported. This isn't sexism. The bad stuff has already been eaten up and chewed thrice over on McCain/Obama/Biden. Just because she's a female, doesn't make the investigation of her lies distortions and truths sexist. Palin had one thing right: Hillary's complaints about sexism was whining. STOP WHINING. Good thing there were no threads about any of these topics already. P.S. As far as the OP? Less wars + more respectability in the eyes of the outside world.
I have no problem with the way Obama and/or Biden have handled the issue. My quarrel is several members of this board who keep roiling it over. That's why I challenge them to start answering the half-brother question to show the hypocrisy. BTW, you haven't mentioned Obama's policies either. I don't think anybody knows without looking at a website to copy the answers.
Well, I'm not sure if you've got any half siblings, but the situations can be very different. I've got 2 older half brothers and a half sister. They're about 20 years my senior. And even though our mutual parent is still alive, I never see them. In fact, I've probably seen them less than 20 times in my whole life. If you attacked my family values over this I would definitely be offended, because despite blood, I don't consider them family. Obama having a sibling an entire world away with no real connection...I don't blame him for not being involved. He has a family here, and his responsibilities to them (and his country) obviously come first.
Couldn't get to the P.S. part? Attacking the hypocrites on the board? I'm cool with that, I know I'm a hypocrite. It is hard not to be one after the last 12 years.
There's no hypocrisy whatsoever. It's clear cut -- a parent is responsible for the actions and welfare of the children they raise. Obama is not responsible for the welfare of every half-sibling in his extended family. I mean, was he even raised by his biological father? Just because two people are related by blood, that doesn't mean they must care for eachothers welfare. Surely we wouldn't say that an adopted child who grows up to be successful has a moral obligation to seek out his biological relatives and support them.
What's silly about it? No one has responded to it because I'm really beginning to believe no one knows what his positions are, aside from being a nice guy, an historic candidate and a good speaker. Only DaDakota put down some issues without a website cheat sheet. You didn't list any of his positions either, but here you are in this thread.
I'm sorry I heard he didn't acknowledge his half sisters and was claiming to be an only child. Apparently he's also fighting with them over a huge inheritance.... Oh wait a minute thats Cindy McCain... did you want to know about her? if not i'm sorry, my bad. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=93708729
Your attempt to derail the thread, with the alleged "honest question" about Obama's brother that you kept badgering posters on merited the old McCain POW joke. There are numerous Palin threads for you to discuss her. Unfortunately I started at least two of them.
Apparently I come from a closer family than you do. I didn't know I had a half sister until I was 24. Before she died, we became very close. One of my cousins is adopted, and he felt a moral obligation to seek out his biological relatives, and now he is delighted to find he has an extended family -- a mother and five half-sisters. If I had a half-brother in another country, you bet I'd try to help him if he lived in a situation as shown in those pictures.
