Tesla stock off 75% from all-time high after a rather dramatic fall with no end in sight. Turns out a lot of that high was not because of Tesla fundamentals but based on the idea that the guy running it was some sort of Tony Stark genius instead of a wacky Nazi-curious unserious dude who blew a bunch of his fortune on a quest to be liked by anti-vaxxers and Qanon types (no D&D) and in the process turned off a bunch of would-be buyers. Who could have known?

It should have never been that high to begin with. Few weeks before he started selling, he pumped it with the hertz deal. TSLA had a market cap over a trillion dollars which everyone kept justifying it saying "THEY ARE NOT A CAR COMPANY". well fk around and find out i guess.

Same for all that other sh** that got pumped by him like dogecoin.

at the end of they day, TSLA = Elon.
Whether or not this affect sales, we will find out in the next year or two.

Of course Elon will blame it on a recession.

Meta is -80%. Nflx was -75%. Amzn is getting there. Aapl is next. Fed pumped the whole market up, yeah it never should have been up there. Elon selling broke the bag holders back, but eventually all these stocks will look the same.

Tesla is still the only EV that is ownable. Buy anything else at your own risk.

By next year we might get to $80, hell even $60 is not out of the question depending on how bad the recession will be. But anything below $100 in the long run is a generational buying opportunity. In a few years don’t be crying at how much money people are making and you guys were too busy snickering instead of doing something about it like in 2019.

As for turning people off, the size of the market for people dumb enough to squander $60k (a sizable purchase for vast majority of buyers) just because they didn’t like the CEO’s politics is inconsequential. I have liberal friends who are tesla owners who think Musk has gone nuts, but will still buy Teslas as their next purchase because it is the best EV on the market. I also have conservative friends who think EVs are a scam but now open to buying a Tesla BECAUSE of Musk. The net net impact will be negligible.

This is exactly why EV outside of Tesla still won’t break into the mass market. The amount of people willing to pay double the price just to virtue signal turns out not to be that many. Tesla is the only ev where you are getting fair value for your money, a model Y performance is cheaper and a better overall car than a Porsche Macan. That’s why Tesla is the ONLY mass market EV. Consumers are not dumb.

Wife just got delivery of her 2023 BMW i4 last month. Better looking car and rated one of the best cars of the year, period, not just EV. Really enjoying it so far. She doesn't drive a lot of miles and we've learned about keeping it charged to 80% as opposed to fully charging it. Had a 50amp put in the garage and with the level 2 charger from BMW, we haven't spent an extra penny on it.

I won't vouch for Electrify america at all. They are glitchy and far from reliable. This was my experience in 2021 when I had the e-tron for a year.
But that doesn't mean I won't buy another EV since 99% of my driving is in Houston and I would just charge at home.
I also would look at range more carefully on these EVs to make sure I can get to Dallas/SA/Austin comfortably without stopping to charge.

All that said, I am going to sit on the sidelines with this EV adoption. Let others figure it out.

    Consumers ARE dumb.
    Consumers ARE cheap.

So they will continue to buy other products. Otherwise we would all be driving Camrys. or 911s. People don't always buy the "best" solution.
Cars are an identity for a lot of people. And not everyone wants to fit in with the TSLA crowd.

Most people are not going to buy a car if it is incapable or severely limited in long range travel and lacking a suitable charging network. Most ev buyers will not gimp themselves and instead just buy a tesla, controversial ceo or not.

The car market is huge so there’s plenty of room for everyone, especially in the long run as other EVs catch up. But for now, without a comparable charging network or driver assist tech, MOST people will choose the “best” option. Or like the guy I was relying to, just get the gas Kona for half off instead of the virtue signaling Kona for double.

Best to just stick with gas if you are one of those never-tesla people. Virtue signaling is not worth the inconvenience.

I think Tesla having to recall over 80,000 cars in China has done most of the damage to their stock.
