Down -60% since this. Another -15% today after reporting a $1b loss this quarter with $4b cash on hand, and slashing full year production total by almost 50% vs expectations.

    Are we tanking yet?

Any one still want a Lucid air and thinking they are headed the right direction, better get your orders in quick before these become antiques.

Agreed, definitely not a fan of CR for car reviews, especially when they are funded by the Ford Foundation and Alfred Sloan Foundation (GM), imagine that.

(Actual)Consumers still voting with their pocketbooks though.

Cargo Ship Carrying Thousands of Luxury Cars Sinks in the Atlantic
The Felicity Ace had caught fire last month, destroying thousands of Porsche, Bentley, VW cars

    https://www.wsj.com/articles/cargo-...in-the-atlantic-11646150947?mod=hp_lead_pos12

    excerpt:

Salvage crews and the Portuguese navy had said that the intensity of the fire might be explained by a large number of electric vehicles on board. Some batteries are known to be flammable and burn at high temperature when they combust, making such a blaze hard to extinguish.

The Felicity Ace fire is one of the first on board a major vehicle carrier loaded with a substantial cargo of electric vehicles. The incident has sparked debate among insurers and regulators about how to safely transport such vehicles, a question that will gain urgency as EVs become more widespread.

While the cause of the fire on the Felicity Ace might never be known because the ship is lying at the bottom of the ocean, experts say there is a danger that batteries in electric cars can short circuit and catch fire. That could mean that precautions not relevant for conventional vehicles might have to be taken into account during transport, regulators said.

After the blaze stopped, Volkswagen had said it expected “that large parts of the nearly 4,000 vehicles from several group brands were so damaged in the ship fire that they can no longer be delivered.”

Volkswagen declined to comment on the value of the cargo.

Gosh, then Ford must've been pissed when CR's been recommending Teslas for the past few years. lol. Legally, Ford Motor and the Ford Foundation aren't connected, but I'm sure you won't be convinced. :)

I remember reading about this when it happened and I think of that total, something like 1500 of them were Porsches and Bentleys... ouch.

“Legally”. It’s just the Ford family, definitely no conflicts of interest there. They have been recommending Teslas because Ford didn’t make an EV until now. But no matter, actual buyers are not dumb enough to fall for these shenanigans as seen by the sales figures.

Then Ford and GM both must be really pissed since CR didn't vote for any Ford or GM car in their other categories. Toyota, Nissan, and Honda seemed to dominate the list. They must only hate Tesla... and Ford, and GM. :D

if oil and gas continue to rise, at what point does an EV become a cheaper option?

Welp... may want to keep an eye on EV batteries and the input costs into those, as well as availability, too. lol. I'm looking into horse-drawn buggies, myself.

I wouldn't make a huge decision on car buying based upon a couple of months of price fluctuation. If we're in the same boat of crazy energy prices in a year, then ... maybe worry. This is like every time gas prices go up, people sell their tanks and buy small vehicles. Then when prices go down, people start buying their tanks again because they "need" them.

On a side note, and also amazing are people rushing to fill up their gas tanks "before gas prices go up". Like they probably won't be up the next time they pump. :D

They hiked prices a bit at the end of last year. Not sure about recently, but if oil prices go up, pretty much everything can go up since it's necessary in shipping, manufacturing, general production, daily transportation, etc.

There’s a 5 month back log for the cheapest model 3 which is $45k not $39k, they have been raising prices for months now as demand far outstrip supply as their margins and profitability continues to rise.
