I'm waiting to get a good plug-in hybrid. After things settle down in a few years, I'll be happy to get an EV (not one made by Musk), but for now, a a good plug-in hybrid will run entirely on electric most of the time around Austin, and if I go on a trip I don't have to worry about running out of "juice."

I've never thought about it this way. You have a point. I also would like to add that much of the horse carriage (including the engine) is biodegradable! No wondering what to do with the batteries. I'm convinced. Just need a good spot to put a nice sub. I'll have to travel to Amish country and ask for tips on a drop and accessories.

To be fair, @B-Bob was probably already around when horse carriages were the preferred mode of transportation - so I submit to the arbitration court of @B-Bob.

I think they're trying to get rid of current Model 3 inventory first (?). They're offering something like $4000-$5500 off current Model 3's right now from what I've been reading. Buying a Tesla is starting to sound like buying stocks and crypto. Price fluctuations daily. :D

The new Prius Prime is actually a pretty good offering right now (and Toyota finally modernized the exterior design). Think of that as a modern version of the Chevrolet Volt (which I own and love). Ultimately its a smaller car but its got Toyota build quality and a fantastic PHEV design.

If you want something a little bigger, the Honda Clarity is another good option. I'd stay away from the Korean PHEVs because their electric motors really don't have enough horse power. Ultimately you want your PHEV to really feel like an EV when you're running on electric only.

On the matter of @ThatBoyNick having a point about horses and electrical impulses?

I had a dream I bought a Cadillac lyriq and had to explain to my wife why I bought another new car.

My next car will be electric OR use regular unleaded.

The plaid seems like a good deal at 90k. I mean a 2 second daily driver for less than a 100k? Wish the they would lift the income limit for 7500 dollar credit.

Well, I'm not Elon, but they haven't announced US pricing and only you can say if it's worth waiting. It's got improvements like a refreshed design and a few interior and design improvements, too. But they say the mileage is up by something like 10-15%, too. But then, didn't the mileage go down on the 3 not too long ago? I can't keep up with the mess Tesla does nowadays. lol. If I were looking to get one, I would probably wait for the new one, but like I said, I don't know how much more it's going to cost.

I was able to try a Polestar 2 on a rental and here are some brief impressions compared to my 2020 Model 3

    1. The car is much more solid and feels rigid, my 2020 Model 3 is obviously lacking in that department but apparently the updated 2022+ ones are better in that regard. I expect the Highland will further make strides on this.
    2. The dashboard screen in front of the steering wheel is missed. The one on the Polestar 2 looks great and the Google Maps is beautiful. It's not as customizable as I would like though
    3. However, the middle screen on the Polestar 2 is not great. The UI feels like it could be more streamlined, and despite it having Android automotive, there is not a lot that you can do on the center screen.
    4. The thing I miss the most is Autopilot, I use it a lot.
    5. The car looks big on the outside but feels cramped on the inside, compared to the Model 3 I feel like there is less space.
    6. The car is more beautiful looking than the Model 3.

So in summary, the Polestar 2 is a well built car and has higher quality than at least my 2020 Model 3. The driving experience is better, more fun. If you like driving, consider the Polestar. If you like gimmicky features and don't like to drive all the time, go with the Tesla as there is more tech and has Autopilot.

Factoring in the charging network, I would recommend the Tesla 8/10 times over Polestar 2 right now. Once they adopt NACS then it becomes more of a toss up.

Technically, they've already adopted it. The adapters are supposed to come out next year and the port should be standard (no adapters needed) by 2025. But yeah, for many people, the charging network is even more of a gamble than the range since many people are mostly just running around the city.

Yeah, if you're single and have a modified AGI over $150,000, no credit. I think for married couples, it's over $300,000.

So effectively only the people who could actually afford the cars can't claim the credit.

For the price, the Bolt is pretty nice.
