A 2021 Bolt is going for about $21.5k to $22k now. That's a bit more money than getting a used Leaf, but it'll be more future proof with a CCS plug.

Getting the Avalon would be a good idea too. With teen drivers, getting dings and scrapes is fairly likely. Having a cheaper and older car is a good idea. That car is also going to be so comfortable to ride in. I would personally pick this option.

    Charging is an issue.
But it’s not true that truck owners don’t use trucks the way they’re meant to be used.
I think most truck owners use them to tow and haul. They aren’t practical otherwise

90% of truck owners have never towed anything. Hauling? Yes, Home Depot stuff (Lumber, mulch, etc). Hell, I have hauled Washer/Dryers and refrigerators with my truck. Most people haul things less than 100lbs. EV Truck will be fine for that.

There are several companies already working on solid state batteries and have been for a few years : Solid Power, Quantumscape, Brightvolt, etc. Some of them backed by large legacy car companies like VW, BMW, etc. But the research has been going on for years, and it looks like we're probably a few years away from them having the capability to go into mass production in an automotive application, but maybe we'll see something in the next 3 or so years. I'll believe Toyota when I see it. They're behind in the EV "race" and then come out with a Lexus EV that gets damn-near zero range. Pissed me off. lol.

Yeah, this is what I keep saying. If you're hauling what most people haul, you're probably hauling 500-1000 lbs maybe once or twice a year, at the most. You'll take a hit on the range doing that, but the rest of the year when your maximum load is 10-20 bags of mulch or Kroger kargo, don't sweat it. lol.

This is one of the reasons I still want to get a car instead of an SUV or pickup. I know I'll rarely use the pickup/SUV functionality, so why pay the jacked up premium manufacturers put on those kind of vehicles?

Every little bit helps. When my car is done, I am going to buy an EV.

    Indians and Asians love Tesla....
You know what else those folks have in common: the constant need to outdo their fellow countrymen/show off. Cars are a status symbol for them.

Tesla is becoming the new Lexus among those people. Was at a wedding in Dallas and my theory was confirmed.

I literally know no one that owns a truck that uses it twice a year.

Do the vroomvroom street racing kiddies have a mixtape of engine sounds to crank up when they're at red lights?

Yeah it is. It’s also closer to reality.
People that have trucks use them more than once or twice a year.
The majority of truck owners in fact

What's your source other than people in your neighborhood?

As of 2019..there were 48,320,784 pickup trucks registered.
    https://www.bts.gov/browse-statisti...nal-transportation-statistics/number-us-truck

But, as it turns out, a significant portion of truck owners never use their trucks for these capabilities. According to Edwards’ data, 75 percent of truck owners use their truck for towing one time a year or less (meaning, never). Nearly 70 percent of truck owners go off-road one time a year or less. And a full 35 percent of truck owners use their truck for hauling—putting something in the bed, its ostensible raison d’être—once a year or less.

You know how these “studies”’work right? It’s just as anecdotal as anyone saying what is their norm.
Most of them have a bias to begin with, companies are pushing a false narrative about EV being better for the environment.

Either way, believe what you want. I don’t care.

I don't think that study had anything to do with an EV bias. They had an anti-pickup bias probably...but not EV.

everything is anecdotal...point is it's easier to deduce a pattern from a large cohort of 250,000 people...vs. the 10 people you notice with your own bias.

I am not on the EV bandwagon. But I don't buy into your everyone who has a truck is hauling sh**.
Just like everyone who has a 911 is tracking it...
Or every Jeep Rubicons are offroading.

    That’s fair.
I just know in the burbs, most trucks haul stuff or tow. Now, it’s typically lighter loads or campers, but they’re still used.
Maybe it’s not that way in the city or even other states in general. Texas might be an exception
