Agreed - good post! We want our team to win.

This is a business first-it must make money to succeed- this is more sellouts than in many years. L. Alexander has a money maker going here. there is no reason to screw that up now......

gotta make it out of the first round. he needs to prove that he isn't just a playoff coach, he's a championship calibur coach.

a first round exit would lead me to interview rick adleman, larry brown, p.j. carlesemo, and sam cassell. i'd leave the door open for a JVG return if none of these guys think they can win with the blocks we have now. i.e. if they all want to overturn the roster or make significant roster moves. this team already has an identity (defense). brown and carlesemo would probably be the best fits.

Smooth...how can I say this without offending...

If you think Larry Brown should be our coach, are you really and truly a Rocket fan? How can you say that parasite should coach a team that you root for?

I for one, would be pissed. I wouldn't want him coaching this team. I wouldn't even consider him for any front office position. He'll be there for 2 years max, and then leave on bad terms.

If JVG gets us past the first round, then he will get an extension. The deeper we go in the playoffs, the longer his extension should be.

I think he deserves to be back no matter what...with the situation of this year, he has done better than expected...

I believe JVG has already solidified his contract extension. With the way he kept the team afloat during Yao absence, and he just sealed it with a 50 point win. I disagree when people say he should not get an extension if there is a 1st round exit. A coach can only take you so far. He's not the one shooting the shots, playing the defense or the one actually executing the big plays late in the game. The players, mainly our stars, will get just as much blame as the coach if we don't get out the first round.

I agree. It is about results. IMO anything less than a competitive 2nd round series is underachieving with the talent at hand. JVG had a good chance to advance 2 years ago (even better had they done the proper thing and tanked to draw Seattle) and has another great chance this year. How many years do you get two of the best players in the league but are satisfied with a 1st round exit.

No, but getting out of the 1st round is a sign of progress.

IMO we are one of the 4 most talented teams right now (along with Dal, Phx & SA) If we don't get out of the 1st round that means we did not play better as a team than our collective talents--and who but the coach is most responsible.

But I will say Rockets brass will keep him barring possible a terrible 1st round. My llitmus test for results and progress would be a little higher.

And remember, sometimes coaching changes are good. Give Larry Brown a try if it doesn't work out--he is very good with taking a good group and squeezing a little more out of them as a team for a short time.

Larry Brown? You got to be kidding. Isiah Thomas did a better job with the Knicks than Larry Brown. And this is Isiah, not some Hall of Fame coach. You are right about the "short time" part. He'd come here for 1-2 seasons, then mysteriously quit on the team, and join another team in a flash.

Correct, but if we got a couple of finals appearences and perhaps a title (e.g., Detroit, Phily), it would be worth it. LB has a long track record, one poor showing on a disfunctional frachise hardly tarnishes that.

For now give JVG the benefit of the doubt. Hopefully the Rockets all come together, they have a great playoffs, and he is locked up. But if the Rockets suck in the playoffs, than.....

And their teams are all very high in offensive potency / efficiency. All top half in the league in scoring (except injury plagued Miami which was 5th best last year), and all very efficient.

Oh....except for Larry Brown, who isn't coaching any longer. And I'd say Brown is a bygone era coach that ended with him finally getting his championship. He left at the perfect time. The last ugly-ball ring.

That remains to be seen. Last i checked, the Spurs, Heat, and Pistons have won champioships recently. The Mavs and Suns haven't won squat.

He should be replaced if that happens.

Looks like a lot of ppl just care about the free tickets next season.

It is OK Rox lose in the first round, but JVG has to come back so he can give away season tickets again. :p
