What will happen in Chinese - US spy plane incident?

I heard on the radio today that the crew managed to erase all of the important information on the plane before the Chinese got ahold of it.

Am I the only one who thinks the 3rd grade playground fight rule should be instituted in this case:

I can't believe the balance of power in the world is on the line as the result of people arguing over an apology.

We were wrong for spying and crashing their plane. They were wrong for getting close enough to create the problem and for not immediately releasing our soldiers. What's the big deal???
