Is anyone concerned about trading mucho assets plus giving a max deal for Bosh, if it turns out he has a bum knee?

    http://www.thestar.com/sports/baske...-feschuk-listless-raptors-puzzle-gm-colangelo

    . . . .

Still, at a moment when Colangelo is citing individual agendas for his team's descent into on-court indifference, Bosh's is the most transparent. With free agency in his sights and who knows how many voices in his ear he hasn't been the same player since the all-star break. Not that he hasn't had his good games, but at his worst of late, Wednesday night comes to mind, he has been a picture of disinterest, not to mention dead legs. (The ace in the knee brace, who just turned 26, at times looks closer to 36.)

Nope. I admit to not having watched the Spurs this year. I was thinking of the way the Celtics got Garnett.

I was thinking that Duncan could rally for another championship run or two if he doesn't have to carry all the load.

Why the **** will we mortgage everything on a two year window? Two years of relevance and a 5 years of misery afterwards? I don't even know how you think this will fit under the cap, Garnett and Pierce alone makes 30+ mill, and yet somehow we end up having Yao, Scola, Battier, Lowry, Martin and Brooks in the roster as well...

We need a 6th man that will eventually develop into a starter's role. Martin, Brooks, and Yao will take the helm next year, so all we need is a legitimate 6th man, other than Budinger.

My feeling is that Morey will get the best player(s) available, regardless of their position. Then work the pieces he already has to balance things. More than likely, I think he will use the draft in a way to improve his chances of getting a coveted player. i.e. draft a player someone else wants as part of a trade.

The most obvious thing to me is that we dont need another role player, regardless of what role that is. Our assets are stocked in this regard and I expect Morey to unload several of them to get another "star" player.

..I wanted to add that it wouldnt surprise me if we end up with a special player at an unexpected position. Everyone talks PF, and while on paper this seems the position we need the most help at, Morey has always been willing to juggle his lineup, even to the point of an unbalanced roster, to get that special player.

To early to tell what Morey's going to be looking for, but I would bet he's looking at best available and probably leaning on taking a big if he stays at current draft position. Although I dought he stays at current draft position with all the assets he aquired from the Knicks at the deadline.

Minny wants a SG/SF really bad. I think Evan would be better for them IMO.

Morey will try again for Rubio but Rubio still will have two more years in Spain. He doesn't want to come in on a Rookie contract. He'll be 21 by that time and a better player. He doesn't even log a lot of minutes in Spain.

Minnesota is still screwed, because a new CBA will be in place with an even lower rookie scale. Rubio's buyout would be $1.4 million. He would have to come up with $900k, since NBA teams can only contribute $500k.

I suppose there is the Chinese endorsement factor, since Scola, Battier, other roleplayers, and even Coach Adelman were able to get shoe deals with Anta, Peak, or Li Ning. They could pay him $900k a signing bonus as part of his larger endorsement contract.

I think SF is our weakest position. At the 4/5, we have Yao, Scola, Hill, Jeffries, Hayes. I'm not saying we can't improve, and it is not clear how good of a backup C Hill might be, but I'd much rather upgrade at the 3. Keep in mind that Battier is getting older.

But yes, I agree that DM is quite capable of surprising us. If we can get a special player at a good price, we will probably pull the trigger. I can't see us ending up with Dwight Howard and Yao on the same team, but just about anything other good deal that might present itself, DM is liable to jump on.

When Ariza sits, Battier can take his spot. When Yao sits, there is no defensive shot blocking presence. Yao is forced to play excessive minutes not just for offense, but to keep somebody in that can protect the paint. When other teams penetrate, they don't care about Hill being a good backup C. He's not that consistent with blocking shots. They will take their chance.

There's players late in the 1st rd that could be had to fill the SF position, Like Stanley Robinson, Paul George, David Ebanks, etc....

PS. I don't think Hill will be our back up at the C spot ...his natural position is the PF position...and that what i think he'll play next year behind Scola...

I got you, but 1) you are, hopefully, underestimating what Hill can become in a year, and 2) if we do go for a big, expect us to lose some of our current bigs, either by not re-signing them (Scola, Hayes), or maybe trading them to help us bring in that next big star. Not that that's all bad. If the new guy is a rookie, our bigs might be (Yao, Scola, NEW GUY), whereas is we sign a FA big, a la Bosh, maybe our bigs will be (Yao, NEW GUY, Hill). Jeffries' value will be in his expiring contract. Whether we keep Hayes will probably depend on how everything else works out.

Morey trades our #1 for the entire second round. He gets 30 chances to find a couple of gems and no contracts he has to keep. We dominate the Rocky Mountain Review and then add three more D-League teams.
PS - I did this on trade checker and it worked.

I'm not sure about the SF spot being our weakest. Ideally, you want Budinger to be a SF. The roster should basically look like:

    Brooks/Lowry
    Martin/JT
    Ariza/Battier/Budinger
    Scola/Hill/Hayes
    Yao/Hayes/Andersen

Brooks/Lowry is a great PG combination, but hopefully next year we won't have both in the same at the same time -- this hurts us defensively.

Martin/JT - one of our weaker spots, especially with Martin's injury history. I'd love for Morey to snag an Xavier Henry type to groom at the backup position.

Ariza/Battier/Budinger -- I could see us dealing Battier this off-season and going with Ariza/Budinger combination. If we do, I hope we could land a lottery pick for him (ironic, I know) to select a backup big.

Scola/Hill should be a solid rotation, especially (or hopefully) with JHill's development. I don't think Hill is ready to supplant Scola as the starter (Scola is damn good), but he can give us big minutes off the bench.

Yao/Andersen/Hayes is another of our weaker spots. Mostly because of the uncertainties surrounding Yao. Can Andersen develop into our reliable backup C? I'm not sure, but I bet we can get one in the draft.

This draft is stocked with big men -- we could land a quality big late in the lottery because of this.

I see your point. I don't even count J.Taylor (I had to look up what JT meant). Hope I'm wrong there. Still, I think of Lowry and Budinger getting backup SG minutes. Budinger is too good to only get what's left over after Ariza and Battier play SF.

I'm hoping Hill can handle the backup C better than Andersen or Hayes. I like Hayes, but for what we should be able to come up with next year, I would hope Andersen and Hayes combined get no more than 8 minutes a game as backup C.
