I took the test before they "altered" the scoring. I finally looked up the difference the other day on the official site (I think), and it says that if you took it before such-and-such date, add 100 points to your score. Also, I took the SAT as a Junior and never took any "pre-SAT" courses or tests... In fact, I wasn't even going to take the test the day I did. My friend called me up the day before (or day of, can't remember) and said he'd come pick me up, if I wanted to go take it (because he was going to take it). I wasn't even scheduled to take it there. But, they let me in, and I took it. Very seat of the pants type experience. SAT - 1130 (1230 with adjustment) High School Rank - 78 out of 538 (I think) College GPA - 2.92 Community College GPA - 3.90 Major (Finance) GPA - 3.41 When I first started going to UH there was a combination of me being a dumbass and professors screwing me over, and I ended up with three Fs in my first three semesters. I was academically suspended and it wasn't a "very good time in my personal life". But, I got my act together and went back in there for one more year to show that stinking university that I wasn't the idiot with the 1.59 GPA they thought I was. After that I took 5 years off from school (one of the dumbest things I've ever done). Then I decided to go back, but to North Harris Community College (A great school), where I got my bearings back, and my butt back in gear. I finally went back to UH and since then my GPA has been over 3.50. I hope any kid out there that reads this and is going through a tough time in their life (be it academically or personally), will realize that it's not the end of the world and they can always work hard and come out on top in the end. I was about as low as a person can get, but now I only have four classes left and I'll be graduating in December, and the future is looking great (FINALLY!). --------------------- As a side note, I have two brothers. One graduated from UH with an accounting degree (3.01 GPA). The other is graduating from Sam Houston with a biology degree (4.00 GPA) this semester. The BIOL major first went to West Point Prep for a year, and played football. Then he got accepted to West Point where he also played football (Offensive Line - Didn't play, but practiced and was one of only a handful of 1st-year players who got to travel to the Army/Navy game). But, he was medically discharged with a kidney problem. But, I think it was the best thing for him. His GPA at West Point was only something like 2.75, and now he's going to Med School. SAT-1490 ------------------ The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?

I never paid much attention to my GPA in HS or in College (which I should!!). I was in the top quarter in my HS class, not top 10 though. 1280 on SAT Took it on a saturday morning after a night of hooliganism with a nasty hangover during my junior year. Never took it again b/c I hate waking up early on saturdays!!! ------------------
SAT - 1560 (in the old days) Class Rank - 6/400something H.S. GPA - 3.95 unweighted (weighted, I forget) Undergrad GPA - 2.95 (Chemistry @Rice) Graduate GPA - 3.3 (Biochemistry, UT) GRE - 1460 GRE subject test - bad (38th percentile for chemistry ) My chances of succeeding in life: I'm actually pessimistic at this point... taking tests isn't everything. *sigh* ------------------ Isabel,clutchcity.net lurker since 1996 DNA Sequencing Center All your base pairs belong to us.
well that's too small world's for one day, mr_oily, my girlfriend in 1985-86 went to your art school, so I know about 3-4 people from around your class. damn, i'm afraid to mention names though, because my all-time favorite Rockets and music buddy is one of them....I'm not sure if I want to find out.

Some of the most beautiful words spoken on this BBS since I started visiting, Dreamer. I always love it when personal success serves as some sort of inspiration for others. What I hate is when so much emphasis is put on getting high scores, making it to Ivy League schools, becoming one with "aristocracy", etc. that people forget to tell kids growing up to "do well in life". A lot of times that has nothing to do with the money you make or the SAT scores you got, but everything to do with being satisfied with yourself and improving that which is you. Low SAT scores aren't the end of the universe. Quitting on your goals is a far more serious failure. Getting good SAT scores may just be a subset of you achieving your goals, but it's definitely not the final answer in achieving them. ------------------ "So you say you want some intelligent responses? Not a bad post yourself DOD. I agree with you all the way. My parents and tutor are pressuring me into wanting to go Ivy League. Because of weighted classes, I might not be able to play basketball because of my parent's obsession with my being in the top 5 of my class. (For those of you not familiar with weighted/non-weighted classes, Students who take Pre-AP/AP courses, 10 extra points are added to their grade in that class. Athletics are not AP classes so no extra points and end up making your GPA much lower than a person who did nothing but take AP courses) I myself would be content getting in the top 10% and automatically getting into UT. ------------------ Never Underestimate the Heart of a Champion [This message has been edited by vj23k (edited April 11, 2001).]
I guess it's among haven, shanna, hydra, and isabel for best test taker of the BBS. Those are some damn good scores. RM95 is just in a league of his own. SAT-1450 HS rank-36/664? UGPA-in progress HS attendence-missed 25%, I swear, oh the memories come flooding back Side note: I really wish I worked harder in HS cuz that builds you up. I don't mean to dis anyone, but the place I went was joke in terms of making grades. Take me for example, I missed at least 1 day a week on average and still kicked ass relatively speaking. I think most HSs are a joke, unless you went to like Bellaire or Kinkaid or Clements or something like that.
I take tests very well. SAT - 1490(But I fell asleep during the test, or it would have been higher) High School Rank - Not in the top 10, my high school only ranked the top 10%. I was up there though. Undergrad GPA - 3.7-something or other. But I'm not working as hard as I should. ------------------ Founder and President of the Houston Homers Club(HHC) - Are you a homer?
