another question, could anybady tell me how to be a member of this forum? I have been a rookie for about 3 months...
Man, I clicked on the wrong option. yeah, I did expect them of getting us at least one championship the day we welcomed T-Mac in Toyota Center and especially he said that great things would happen in Houston. But things just turned around in that Mavs-Rockets series and that like a twinge hurt every time I recalled. And very next season it just had our season turned into a total disaster because of injuries to our players, not just T-Mac's old back spasm that kept him out of the lineup when he was with Orlando.
I was expecting a championship. We had the perfect mix of an allstar SG and an allstar Center. That won't be easy to get together again. Too bad our dreams were crushed by injuries. I do believe we never saw what this team was fully capable of, but its too late to take another shot at it obviously, once again, because of injuries..
I thought we were giving up too much with Francis and Mobley. Seeing Cato go was nice. I didn't think we would be much better at first. I don't think there was one season that I thought a championship was possible except last season with Artest.
I expected a championship run.......but a combination of a weak supporting cast and a slew of injuries killed that dream.
I find it hard to believe only 50% of those who have voted weren't uber excited about the tandem and didn't have championship aspirations.
You've actually been a rookie for more than 6 months. And generally, the way I understand it, to become a member you need to post halfway positive, or least insightful, things about the Rockets. I doubt you've done that in a total of 6 posts.
I actually didn't expect much from the Yao/T-Mac era, early on. I thought those two were good and could definitely turn up their performances against good teams and in the playoffs. But, I thought supporting cast would be too poor, while the offense would not produce enough for a deep playoff run. The Rockets weren't good enough overall to win a title, outside of T-Mac and Yao, the level of talent dropped off too much to win a title and the supporting players were the kind of players that wouldn't have significant roles on other (good) teams, except maybe Jim Jackson. Though, he was traded before the deadline for David Wesley. Still trying to figure that trade out. That's the reason I don't think we could win, anything, we could never draft well or get quality FAs. If you look at every single title team or powerhouse in the last decade (and two before it), they all acquired great FAs, drafted well (except maybe the Lakers), and where balanced on both sides of the ball. Compared to the Lakers (both versions), Heat, Spurs, Suns, Kings, Mavs, and Celtics, the Rockets 3rd best player from (04-07), probably wasn't as good as those teams' 5th to 8th best player. The best run I believe they would've had was in 06-07 (injury plague season, but that teams where fairly weak that season), 07-08 (Yao goes down, during 22 game winning streak), and last year (Yao and Mutombo goes down in the playoffs). I'm not as disappointed as lot of posters are, since I had realistic expectations for a team that actually overachieve in some areas. We didn't have enough versatile players at the time to win, anyway. Again, if T-Mac and Yao were to win the championship in 04-07, they would've done something very few players have done in NBA history by winning with one of the worst supporting cast in the history of sports. Rafer Alston...Reece Gaines...David Wesley...Juwan Howard...Bobby Sura...Charlie Ward...Mark Jackson (way past his prime)...Moochie Norris...Ryan Bowen...Tyronn Lue...Scott Padgett...Mike James...Maurice Taylor...Jon Barry...Nachbar...and Clarence Weatherspoon. With a team that never had an abundance of points. Could Wilt, Shaq, or Dream even win with those players?
