Yeah, everyone has their opinions on which was better, high school or college, or life after college. I'm just ready to do something with my life and be paid for it, I just see that being much better, than going to school, sitting around a bunch of people you don't wanna be around, listening to a professor who I can barely understand, and STUDYING for tests, doing homework, writing papers, taking tests, doing presentations, showing up for class... It's boring.
I double majored in Broadcast Journalism & Public Relations. I had to take like three extra courses for the double major, so I figured it was stupid not to do it. I spent a little over a year working in media relations for an NBA team, so I used my public relations degree there. I've spent the last three years working at television stations in Houston, so I've used my broadcast journalism degree there. The sad thing is, I don't think I actually learned anything useful in any of the courses I had to take to get the degrees.
forget all that, they make you do stuff that is pointless. i mean atleast in highschool we got grades for stuff we did, now, the whole class is based on 1 or 2 tests and some half assed project graded by a TA.
If you have trouble getting into that Micro lecture and lab hit me on the board, just do it as soon as you find out it is booked. I can only help you if it is done quick... BA in Political Science. Accepted to a Grad Program for Gov't at SWTSU, decided not to go. Working since 98 and now in Law School at night.
Try pulling an all nighter revising finish specifications for a project because the client suddenly wants to change the whole color scheme a day before the project goes to bid and and you'll be missing college. I pulled lots of all nighters in college but that was because I wanted to do a good job and if I didn't agree with my profs the wors that could happen would be a lower grade. Not losing the project, the money that comes from the project and possibly other projects from bad word or mouth. The stress of work in the design fields is far greater than the stress of studio classes.
Now this sounds fun to me, well the part where is says... "...working in media relations for an NBA team..."
I'm at Baylor University, Sports Sponsorship and Sales with guaranteed internships with the professional texas teams and the titans. Not sure if I'm going to change my major though...possibly to entreprenuership.
Logistics Management - left school after 2 years to earn some $. I have been in the transportation field for over 15 years with the last 10 in management. I do not use one damn thing I learned in college, and its all been hands on experience. As another poster said, sometimes its not what you know, but who you know.
For you budding entrepreneurs out there, myself included, this is a good article: http://biz.yahoo.com/special/young05_article1.html I got a BS in Economics, but actually studied Finance, Mgmt and Statistics, of which I use 2 (not Statistics - though the concepts subconsciously I'm sure are helpful).
BA in Art History (minors=studio art, French, and Spanish...almost had a philosophy minor as well) MA in Art History A little bit extra Life keeps getting in the way of a PhD. I want one to be able to be a real professor, but I have put wife/family over the training...for better or worse. I will either continue next year and finish in about 3 years, go back in 5 or more years, or never go back. Unsure. I use my degree every day. I work at an art museum and I adjunct teach Art History at various colleges.
Trust me, it's not as exciting as it looks. I loved parts of it, but I loathed parts of it. I'd do it again, if I could take a time machine back at least 10 years.
I got a double-BS in Religious Studies and Psychology. Upon graduation I taught Language, Language Arts and Social Studies for about 8 years and then got into the insurance business. Been there since about 1986.
I'm at Baylor right now, second year, just changed my major to psychology. I had hopes of going to med school when I started, but I don't know if it's for me now that I find out I suck at bio and chem. I hope I can do something with a psych major. Ugh...
good morning my name is mr john, ill be your history teacher for this wonderful 8th grade year of yours.
