I was interested in Athletic Training nearly all my life and almost declared that as my major. After looking into salaries, I noticed that physical therapists can make 3 to 4 times the amount of the average Trainer, so I chose to go with that. Ideally, I'd love to be a trainer for a pro sports team, but that would be a very hard job to land. So, for now, I'm sitting on the next best option, a physical therapist, hopefully with a sports emphasis. I think a physical therapy degree is pretty good qualification for a trainer postion, anyways...
BA in History. Recently graduated from law school. Should have gone to ITT Tech. Those guys have jobs.
BA in Music Education, 1996. Not using my degree AT ALL, at least not in my day job in financial services. I have a few students and play in a band, but I could do that without my degree. Someday REAL soon, I'm going to show up at work and they're going to be handing out severance packages. It's already happening to other departments around ours and it's only a matter of time before it hits us. Before it's all said and done, I'm probably going to go back to teaching full time.
I already have a freaking Ph.D. That's why. It's not like I was irresponsible the first time, have been working random jobs, and finally decided to go be educated. It's more like I love college so much I want to stay there. (not to mention wondering how it would be to study something interesting for the first time in many years) Anyway, I know society doesn't owe me any more education. Just not sure how I would be at teaching music... especially with some of the jobs you have to have... maybe I would be old enough by then to handle it. At least I play piano as well as percussion, and I've finally realized there are a lot of opportunities there. I wish I could just be a full-time accompanist for a music school or something.
I'm about to get my AA in Bus Admin from the local JC, then I guess i'll try to transfer somewhere to get my Bachelor's. But I want to be a full time slacker / comedian / writer / actor / pimp / shrink / drug dealer / heavy metal singer / football coach / CEO of my own startup company / rapper
Graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree from Tulane in 95. I've been working out at NASA for about 9 years. I like it, but hate driving from Bellaire to Clear Lake every day. Damn these high gas prices!!!!
Political Philosophy Currently getting master's in English Use it every day. Why would you go to school to train for one job? Get a liberal arts degree!
BM in Jazz Studies. I graduate in May and will go into the Air Force as a musician. I plan on Grad School when I get out. But I already make about $750/month playing on part-time basis(steady church gig + 2-3 gigs/month. I started playing music in 6th grade but I've only REALLY been playin and dedicating myself for about 4 years. I have no doubt that I'll be able to make a living as a professional musician when the time comes.
First year of college at UT, majoring in computer science. I wasn't really sure what to major in, so I just decided to pick something I was a little interested in, not to mention it seems like a nice field to major in. I thought about the possibility of changing it in case I didn't like it (since I never really programmed before), but I think I'll stick with CS since I'm liking it so far. I don't have a clue what I'll be using this for in the future though; I'm terrible at long-term planning/goals. A little while back, I learned that a cousin of mine went through several majors (including CS for a semester); I think he ended up with a degree is philosophy or something like that, but he never really uses it. In fact, one of his jobs was watching a door in one of those court TV shows, IIRC.
I'm currently a senior at UT majoring in chemistry. I started out as ChE, but really disliked it, so I decided to switch. The current plan is to head for Texas Chiropractic College after I graduate.
history and geography from u.t. if you need an easy major, geography is definately up there. dont get me wrong, there are some tough classes (remote sensing and g.i.s. related stuff), but overall its smooooth sailing. i was planning to teach and even did my student teaching through u.t., but never got certified. now i do market research consulting for home builders. liberal arts rules!
Major in Theatre / Communication Minor in Asian Studies I worked for a big theatre for a few years and ran my own theatre for a few years. I still do lighting and sound design on my own and work for a lighting design firm. It was pretty much what I went to school for, but I hated school when I was there. Actually doing it, I learned more than I did in school.
you and me both... Ive been to 3 different colleges to date, and hated each one more than the previous... wish i was back in HS.
