My first post, as might be expected, came in a thread about draft picks owed to Houston. The Magic's pick that they owed in 2001 came up, and that's where my first post came. http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18749
I think it was the first day I had ever visited CC.net, so I went to the BBS and registered. Then I opened up a thread titled something like "Your Greatest Memory of Dream". This was right before the 2000-2001 season, so I chimed in with my memories. Then, I don't know what happened, but I lurked for about 4 or 5 months after that for some reason and finally started posting again. Never been a big poster, and wouldn't have 1000 posts without the fantasy forum.
http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6499 sept 10, 2000 street ballers vs the NBA. I thought bthere were some before that, but whatever, I did the search and it dosnt lie. Edit: nope this was my first post. it seems to me that most of you guys havnt played small world before. im not dissing you guys, but you will find that picking your favorite player is usually the worst thing to do. but than again wouldnt it be fun to make a team up of all your favorite players. as far as seeing other peoples teams, you can do that by looking at your division (inside of small world) just click on which ever team you want to see. i know its less "social" than this, but it is easier. FYI my team is CHEESE, but it will change before the season starts, and often. *PEACE small world ehh
My first one was about seeing Glen Rice and his wife in an airport in Miami. "I almost snatched his walkman just to peep how he would run..."
You said he was very down to Earth, yet professional at the same time. I remember. Didn't you actually get to speak to him for awhile. That's a top notch first post. My was under a different name batseye another bridge player name Clutch's server switch in Sept/Oct 1999 wiped that out. My first post was just prior to the first referendum vote--from a season ticket holder perspective saying how new stadiums do not need to be paid by city funds, that <b>both</b> the city and the outside investors want it <b>all by themselves</b>, that they fight with each other only to reach a compromise on split royalties/ownership. The city and the investors know they can each make huge profits, separately. The city uses bonds to fund and pays them off with $200m of millions in licensing fees immediately then parking and rental to sports franchises, while the sports franchises want exlusive, instead. Big battle, and the newspapers never quite get it right. Despite the fact this was like 5 mos before "saveourrockets.com" which made the city look bad versus the owner...my first post didn't go over too well. hehe damn...who would've guessed!!!
Thanks HP, I did speak to him as we awaited the arrival of our Houston flight. Wish I was as smart as you guys so i could pull it up again, because since then most of mine have sucked . thanks again
The first thing I did on this board was defend my favorite rocket player eddie Griffith It was funny when the rocks first drafted him, everyone kept spelling his name wrong. but its pretty big time for a freshman to be the man and handle the defensive attention that "the man" recives. I think that speaks volumes about griffins abilitys
Here you go AB, Your first post, and it was a pole! lol <a href="http://bbs.clutchcity.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22605">Glen Rice is excited, he told me so!</a>
Confession is good for the soul I believe the genesis of GB on the Clutch site was as something very, very close to a troll. Those were the days when the Francis vs. Brand who should have been the first pick and who should be ROY debates were raging. Two things saved me: I could talk ball, because I love the sport and I'm a writer and communicator by nature...and The Cat. I participated in some fantasy league and built a repoire with him and he shielded me from the wrath of Clutch. I've been banned twice (once deserved, the other a misunderstanding) but now I'm a good citizen and a top poster...loved by all...
I just did a search on mine, and I commented on the resigning of Mo Taylor. I didnt get bashed because I just put my 2 cents in. But, as months went on, I began to notice myself in the BBS Hangout more than the actual Rockets thread.
Ok I found my first post and man was it hilarious, this is how tough they used to be on us Jr.Members back in the day. This is after I made a thread about Hakeem and how I met him and how I asked him if he was gonna be back and if he felt alright. I proceed to get this response: ---------- Is it me, or have the threads that have been posted by Junior Members become more and more r****ded? This thread, for example does not pose a question, and it doesn't say anything substantial. Dream saying he was "alright." could mean that he's doing alright physically..or that he's having a good day.. basically, it doesn't mean anything that we can put a finger on. Then we have steve posting threads that are totally incoherent. I only reply to this post to caution the rest of the new posters to think about what they have before they post. There's nothing more annoying than clicking on a thread that might be of interest and to find something quite the opposite. THINK! -elie17 ----------- Thank you Elie17, for helping me go on to be what I am now......a free post lovin, chicago bull watchin, some more stuff, etc, etc, rocket fan......
Not exactly sure, but I think it was probably something about Barkley costing us a game against the Jazz in '99. The Rockets had just won something like 9 in a row against real bad competition, were up at Utah almost the whole game, then lost it in the end and proceeded to fall down to the 5th spot in the WC. Barkley kept trying to post up Malone and just kept failing over and over and over. Very frustrating.
