I think mine was Chariots of Fire at the Galleria. I was staying with some friends of the family while my parents were out of town...I think me and their son who was a little older than me ended up running around the mall for a while.
excellent question...i don't know for sure, but Star Wars is definitely the first movie I remember seeing in a theater, and I would have been 3 years old.
Did anyone else not like it that much? That critter was the ugliest thing I had ever seen. Trying to make it "cute" just made it worse. I think I was glad when he went back home... not sure how he was supposed to accomplish all that with only a bicycle. Then I didn't hear anything about that movie for, I don't know, the next 20 years, and I thought everybody had gotten over it... until the anniversary thing. On the other hand, when I saw "Gremlins", for some reason I thought it was the coolest thing ever. (well, I was 9, which is about the right age to appreciate it )
My first movie was "Oh God" with John Denver and George Burns, The sad part was they showed "Debbie Does Dallas" immediately afterwords. (What a crappy drive in.)
1st one I remember was Star Wars. Was very young, and very moved. Funny how when you're a kid you want to be Luke Skywalker...a few years later he seems like a dork, and Solo is the Man...
it was Snow White back in the early 80's in Livingston, TX I remember going to drive-ins before that but I don't remember what was playing...
All right now. I have to step in and defend my man here. Of course, us girls never wanted to be either one, and I never identified a whole lot with Princess Leia either... I was jealous of how brave she was and how she seemed to be little miss perfect. But that's OK, because I wouldn't have gone for Han Solo anyway. As teenagers, we would argue about which one we thought was "hot", Luke or Han Solo. There seemed to be a lot more Han Solo fans, and I would argue with them. I have to stick up for Luke. I was glad when Leia ended up being his sister instead of his love interest. Never mind those new "prequels"... they're not the real thing. Jedi being celibate??? Look, they didn't write him that way in the first three because he was supposed to be celibate. He didn't end up with anyone else because he is mine.
Man, ****, Same here. My first movie was the Little Mermaid. Can't believe somebody's first movie was also the Little Mermaid. I saw it at AMC 8, or 12, or 16. In the Randalls shopping center near 290 and west 34th street. Too Funny. The Freaking Little Mermaid.
star wars return of the jedi...i remember when C3 PO knicking on the door to see Jabba the Hut. And Luke Skywalker use the Force to kill the Monster in the Pit. I thought he was toast!
You know, I was thinking my first was probably Star Wars, but I know for a fact I saw some movies in the theater that came out before that, such as "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother" and "Escape To Witch Mountain" and "The Apple Dumpling Gang" It's possible I saw a Disney rerelease prior to that, though. Star Wars was probably the first movie I ever saw more than once. EDIT: I take that back, too, because I saw the Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother more than once in the theater, too.
Now that I've looked through some movie lists, I'm thinking the first movie I ever saw in the theater was Woody Allen's "Sleeper" My parents were weird.
