Back in 1995 or 1996 I saw a concert at the Compaq Center, Bush was getting big back then, but they had a couple of bands on tour with them. - Goo Goo Dolls - No Doubt - Bush (headlining) It was a pretty awesome concert, with three kick butt bands, maybe even worth the price of the overbloated admissions.
I have this on vhs and in san diego when Eddie Jumps off the top of the stage... Still seeing that gives me chills
Pink Floyd, Rice Stadium. It was a stormy night and when it started raining, the raindrops made the lasers that Pink Floyd is famous for sparkle all the way up to the heavens. It was almost as if God Himself was doing His part to improve the light show. Eventually, David Gilmour was the only musician on stage and they had to drag him off just before the canvas over the stage gave way to the deluge. Awesome.
Kingdom Come played first at the Monsters of Rock and Dokken got booed off stage after an equipment failure. These two round out my top 3.
I forgot to mention Prince, who I have seen a couple of times. He is amazing in concert, and he lives in toronto part time now, and often hangs out at this little bar I go to. But a friend of mine got to play with him in London; he was working lights for the show, but Prince found out that he was a jazz/classical pianist, and asked him to play with the band for a gig, so I guess that has made my seeing him in a bar and in concert seem less significant. My friend eventually came to Canada to try and get Oscar Peterson to teach him, but I don't think it ever flew. I consider prince to be one of the 2 or 3 legit musical geniuses operating in popular music in the last couple of decades, but man he's a freak. Anyone remember the Kevin Smith stuff on going to paisley Park?
By the way, I should add that both the Radiohead and the acoustic Beck shows I saw were part of an insane stretch where I saw Radiohead, Beck, and Pearl Jam in 12 days. Definitely the best two week stretch of concerts I've ever gone to. LA kind of sucked, but man were there great shows to see all the time. (Not to mention the numerous good bands I saw for $5 while I lived there.)
On a side note, two fairly big bands I saw in concert who absolutely sucked live were the Proclaimers and New Order. Both of them God Awful, but NO came off worse because they were part of a double bill with Depeche Mode who were pretty cool in concert.
