Cool story, Nuggets. When I was in college, Bob Becker from the percussion group Nexus came to our school for a week and played a concert with our percussion ensemble. For 5 days, we'd rehearse all day and then he'd take us all out and buy us dinner and drinks that night. We'd close the place down every night. One of the tunes we played, I got to trade licks with him center stage. He played tabla, I played congas. We also got to play 3 xylophone rags with him (that's his specialty). Greatest week of my life. I saw him play with the Dallas Symphony a few years later. We saw him afterwards and he actually remembered us. He invited us all to the after party and we just drank and talked about percussion all night. Good times...
I was at that show and that was my pick even before I saw your post. Amazing show. I've seen a LOT of shows since then and to this day, that's always the answer I give to this question. One of the most high energy shows I've ever seen. Will Calhoun gave me his drumstick! Also, Ten Hands at the UH campus in the early 90's was pretty amazing.
Ministry in October 1988 at Numbers on Westheimer. It was the most fun I've ever had at a concert. Seeing Front Line Assembly in 1989 was pretty exciting as well.
Man.. Its tough to name just one but it would probably have to be: moe. Midnight to Sunrise Bonnaroo set 6/22/02. Honorable Mentions: Phish 10/7/95 Spokane, WA, 7/13/03 The Gorge - George, WA U2 May '97 Radiohead 6/23/01 The Gorge moe. 7/5/01 Vancouver, BC
Sounds amazing...you wouldn't happen to have a copy of it, would you? My best concert would probably have to be Springsteen and the E Street Band at Reunion Arena a few years ago. Two encores(Not quite 20...). Despite an inferior atmosphere, Bruce and the band still put on a great show. Hopefully, I'll be attending a lot more concerts in the future. BTW, anyone going to see David Gray in Houston?
In the early 90's, it was in the Astrodome... Metallica, Guns n' Roses, Soundgarden and someone else... Absolutely awesome...Although, they only served O'douhls when the concert started...
Dude, are you in ABQ still or are you from there? I'm there now and if you could recommend some spots, that would be great...
yea...it sure was awesome the way that Axl made everyone wait for GnR to come on.. Metalliclaw kicked ass at that show, but Axl sucked.. I was down in the pit for that show....man was I sore the next day!
No, I live in Houston now(where i am from)..but I did live in Portales, NM for a few years as I was going to ENMU... living in Portales..we had to mash on to Albq or lubbock or el paso for concerts..made for lots of road trips
I love the love for pearl jam for me #1-Pearl Jam-all 5 of them #2-Disturbed-2 of them #3-Korn-Once, they were awsome
Mucho love for PJ in here I listed the Lubbock show as my fav, mostly bc I had 3rd row center tix..but all 3 of the PJ shows ive been to were awsome in their own way.. I got to see Korn for the first time at Ozzfest earlier this summer..they blew me away..I didnt list that show in the top 5 bc their set was only an hour bc of the Ozzfest format..I def wanna see them again with a full 2 hr set!
Either DMB at the Shoreline Mtn. View, CA or Counting Crows w/ Toad the Wet Sprocket at the Fillmore SF, CA.
Damn, why couldn't they have had the internet back then? There are some good Springsteen concert videos on Kazaa lite if you're interested.
Emerson, Lake and Palmer 1971 Dallas Quadrophonic Speaker set up. Kieth Emerson's piano rise up off the stage as if by magic and then it starts spinning end ove end with hom stil playing it. Or: Alice Cooper 1969 Shreveport La opening for Spirit No one in the audience had ever even heard of the guy. He's pulling heads off of dolls and spitting blood. During his last song he walks up on a gallows and hangs himself....end of show! Or: Hendrix 1972 Ft. Worth He was at his height, plays with his teeth abd finally burns his guitar with lighter fluid.
