I like Dexter better than The Wire.

Although I was just telling my wife the other day that my two all-time favorite drama parts were Dexter Morgan and Omar from The Wire. I still go around the house every now and then whistling "The Farmer in the Dell"

meh, I watched season 1 of Dexter then gave up, the plotlines simply aren't very believable, the scripts aren't that great and other than Michael C. Hall I find the cast to be mediocre at best. The other cops are particularly bad.

He's freaking awesome...I never thought I would like a gay character that much...

And, yes The Shield is the closest thing to it that I've seen so far. The Wire is without a doubt the best drama I've ever seen.

I go back and watch random episodes online from time to time...

I just started watching The Wire about a month ago and I agree -- it's one of the best shows (well-written, smooth story arc's, great character development) I've seen in a long time.

And Omar is a bad ass character.

Best show ever hands down. Great characters like Omar, Barksdale, Stringer, Prez... List goes on.

The Wire is the most realistic drama I've ever seen, but I liked Jericho and Deadwood better in the last few years. Jericho is the best concept for a drama ever, but lacked a little on writing and a little more on acting. The Wire is the best-written and best acted drama ever, but Deadwood is in second place in both categories, and I like the concept better.

Dude wanted to do other stuff. If they wanted to keep going, they could have, but he did other things like generation kill and this new show with Bunk from the wire taking place in N.O. HBO does a great job because they dont have the same restrictions as regular cable. true Blood and the Tudors were pretty good also.

Great show. But I'd take LOST over The Wire. The Wire was always great, but I can't freaking wait for each new episode of LOST.

It's funny, I've lived in or just outside of Baltimore for the last 10 years and I still haven't seen The Wire. I love David Simon, loved his books Homicide, and The Corner, loved the TV show Homicide. But when The Wire came out I was working in schools in neigbhorhoods where The Wire was set and that was more than enough "realism" for me. My idea of leisure wasn't to go home and relive it again on tv.

Now that I have a little distance on that I want to go back and watch the series.

The last episodes of the sheild were great
    a nice cresendo.
    Each episode I was wondering
    WOULD SHANE GET AWAY
    Will mackey get caught

    But
I cannot comment on the overall series
    cause
I came to both of them late

My feelings exactly. I seriously wished I was frozen and reawakened at the start of the LOST season 6. This extra long off season is hellacious. The worst part about it is...after this season is over the off period is FOREVER.

Homocide Life on the Street was good as mentioned by gifford1967. Done by the same person. he used to be a police reporter in Balmore.

The Wire is simply amazing, writing, acting, setting. The kids don't overdue it, they are so real. its amazing they get the quality acting out of the young.
