there are enough international scouts, i doubt a player will appear out of nowhere.

knowing what the rockets like, it will be a bunch of old farts.

man do you really care about those guys, charlie ward???who?? Childs??? and for Sura, the guy is a loser, hasn't done anything to date consistently.

that's exactly who the Rockets will get, another injury prone old fart. i guess nothings new in the rockets world. We need a bench that can hit some OPEN shots, and get some rebounds.(tough)PF...Splitter will fill that void)

No because that approach was already taken, it failed.

Honestly while I will be hoping for the best, I wont be expecting much from whoever we end up drafting at 8th spot and to a lesser extent even the 1,2 or 3 spot this year.

As many have stated, this appears to be a really weak draft, with no sure fire, cant miss stars, like a Lebron, Carmelo or even an Okafor, all of whom were expected/projected to be big contributers right away.

Even the players expected to be lottery picks, with the possible excpetion of Morrison & Gay are still mostly raw and still working to developing their game at the "college level". While I havent watched much of Thomas or Aldridge, I've seen enough to think, both need alot of work not only skillwise but physically to be successful to the nba.

I hope whoever the rockets end up drafting plays as much as Head has this year, but with a bigger impact and a better fit.

with all of the JVG's chatter about the importance of a big man with shooting range, does anyone else get the feeling that this is his way of saying he's not gonna draft shelden williams, if he's the BPA?

i agree with JVG, but at the same time, i think shelden is the player we want stro to become [although i wish williams had swift's hops]. if we draft him, stro becomes expendable, and will likely fetch more on the market than williams.

Are you watching the playoffs this year? Sam Cassell is HUGE for the Clippers. The only reason we traded him away was to get Barkley. You're a doofus if you think reach any other conclusion.

Although a 4 with range could be someone who comes off the bench. JVG would have to change his tune a bit, too; he doesn't like Euros.

Offer half the MLE to Darius (?) Songaila and the other half to Vaselinus Spoogopolis (speaking of a European player) and target a 2 at #8. Roy if he's there, Collins if not.

    Armchair GMs. Gotta love'em.

the guy is 38 years old next year......YOU GET OLD PEOPLE!!!!! these NBA players are human too. We've already gotten Childs/Ward/Wesley before, and you know what we got em all at the end of their careers. You don';t want to waste another year, and then we're going to have to hear the same old, 'this team is too old all year'. Realize that getting players at the end of the road are not what is going to help this team. This team needs a lot of things, fix from the bottom up.

Cassell, right now, is better than any PG we've had since he left the team. Now I said PG, not SGs in a PGs body, ala Steve Francis. Next year, Cassell would be a formidable back-up and spot starter. You don't need a youth movement at every position.

BTW, your post does not suggest that your problem with Cassell is his age. In any event, and with respect to your view, I honestly don't think you have watched Cassell play the last three years. If you had, you might have a different view.

from what i know he gets injured a lot. from what i know he is a moody player. from what i know he is going to be 38 next year. from what i know in the last 9 YEARS he has played 5 YEARS with less than 30 games in the whole season. from what i know he has not averaged more than 5 assists in the last 5 years. From what i know, that's all i need to know. :D

I think it's a psychological thing with players in the 8-10 slots. ... you have the top 3 or 4 players, then you have some picks that have alot of potential but don't blossom as expected... then the lower lottery picks tend to be players who are perhaps more motivated, not necessary the best college players but very good players that didn't get alll the attention

    seems to be the trend

Are we talking aboutthe same Sam Cassell:
    http://www.nba.com/playerfile/sam_cassell/index.html

I don't think we are talking about the same guy. With the exception of 1998-1999 (8 games played), and last season (59 games played), Sam-I-Am has been quite healthy and productive. Also, go check out his assist numbers and FG percentage for the last several years.

I think Reddick is worth our pick, if were lucky maybe we can trade down for another second rounder for next year. Worst case scenario he becomes a Steve Kerr type player off the bench, and a reliable third option to take shots late in games. Best case scenario he improves his ball handling and becomes a combo guard that can either play 2 guard against teams where we can offer more help defense, or point in situations where T-mac is bring the ball up.
I'm thinking a more athletic Jeff Hornecek, or Heinrich with a little less playmaking.

I'm only saying this because I think the ideal picks for us, who I think are either Carey or Roy, will not be available at the 8 spot. If either of those guys are available you snatch em up but I can't see taking the Euro or Williams with all the money we have tied up in Power Forwards.

Cassell would be good on the cheap as a leader for the team. He'd teach Yao and T-MAc how to lead and might even rub off on Alston.

For the right price, as a back up or platoon PG with Alston, he'd be an outstanding fit.

Sam's assists are lower, but look at where he's played lately. In Milwakee, he played with Ray Allen who chipped in 4.5 assists per game. In Minnesota, he played with KG, who chipped in 4.5-5.0 apg. I just don't worry about a career 6.2 apg-avg when you consider that Sam was dished out 9.0 apg in New Jersey, and that he's played in systems where he has been needed more for scoring than passing.

Age...there you have it. I can't quibble with you over whether he is too old to play, but the best evidence of next year is this year, and that doesn't help your argument. I don't suspect that Sam's numbers will completely drop off next season.

    Take care,

    P1st, S2nd

I really don't think Cassel is taking mid level money to come back here, it'd be great if he did but he's trying to get paid. Its the reason he's not in Minny now, and the only thing that he's talked about since he's been a Clipper.
