hayes had him checked, pau aint go off, till hayes picked up foul #4 and had to sit on the bench, game was over anyways.....if it was close, he wouldnt have gotten the ball.
Van Gundy made a hell of a point in staing that if Gasol faces up against chuck specifically he can be more effective because he can shoot over him. Chuck played Gasol great when he had his back to the basket. If he does face up I think we will need to send a guard to double and make him give it up otherwise let him and chuck go at it like the last game.
The best defense may be offense. Brooks and Landry need to make this the game plan on both Gasol and Bynum. Even it up for us in the size department. The Rox never try hard enough in this area for me. Scola is the biggest culprit here. He is soft under the basket in getting fouls on the opposition.
i dont think Pau has an advantage facing up. Hayes also does the "hand in the face" defense and he clearly affects Pau's shot no matter where he shoots from.
Face Guard him if he faces up. Putting Ron on him would be interesting too. Ron shouldn't be on him for long stretches though. If he has to guard Kobe and Gasol for extended minutes, his offense will suffer.
What to do with Gasol -- play him hard/ very physical rough him up early and shake his confidence. Then focus on Kobe.
he scored 18 of his 30 points in garbage time as the Rockets were trying to not foul and just keep the clock moving - I wouldn't get to upset about that in particular.
Gasol got 18 points in 4thQ garbage time. He was pretty much a non-factor. There was never any doubt about the game's outcome during 4Q. It's not what we're going to do with Gasol that's the worry - it's what he's going to do to escape Chuck's defensive pressure. The obvious answer is for Gasol to face Chuck up and pop his jumper. Hard for the Rockets to answer. OTOH, Phil Jackson might be stubborn enough not to try that.
