Give them cough drops? Do you put up a sign that says you're out? Turn off lights? or just ignore any more doorbells?

Turn off porch light and ignore. Of course, I do that the whole night, I'm not giving candy to those damn kids.

Some people have gotten far enough to give money, batteries, brownies, etc. I would take the easy way out and just shut off my lights and pretend i'm not home. Buy a few extra bags than you normally would, and you won't have to be in that situation.

leave an empty bowl on the porch with a sign that says "take one". They'll just assume some kid robbed them all or you ran out.

I've officially ran out of candy already. I guess the candy bowl that says take one is too tempting. (I don't remember taking more than I was supposed to when I was younger)
I did open the door and yell at some teenage girls "The sign says take one thank you!" after I heard them laughing and the sound of a lot of candy rustling. "We did" was there response. LIARS.

As I was typing this some illiterate middle school kids must not have understood my sign and they rang the doorbell. I heard the words"TAKE THE REST!" followed by giggling.

The beauty of it though, is I don't have to open the door or hear the doorbell ring too much any time tonight. I've got too much schoolwork to do.

I wouldn't suggest handing out homemade goodies when you run out. My parents gave me a big lesson on what to eat on Halloween- and non prepackaged food was a big no no.

I bought candy, and no one has rung my doorbell.

I drove by Lady_di's neighborhood, and the HOA had some big ass party going on.
