Going to New Orleans today for the first time. Told the accountant here at work about it; she is 64, I am 25. She replied, "I haven't been in many years but back in my day people there used to sneak up behind you, stab you in the back with an ice pick and rob you. Be careful and have fun!" Needless to say I'm not too worried, but my reaction was about this while listening:
My favorite city ever! Great Creole food, great music, great night life. Frenchman is a fun place & much better than Bourbon St. If you are on Bourbon though, Pat O's (their piano bar specifically) is a lot of fun. Also, if you want to learn a bit about New Orleans history & culture, I suggest going to the Backstreet Cultural Museum.
went to new orleans in february to run a half marathon. i was so excited to get drunk and party after the run. got a daiquiri from a drive-thru around 5pm and then immediately passed out for 13 hours. at least i got to go to café du monde the day before. :\
If you got time away from boozing, strip clubs, and damn good food...make your way over to the National Dday Museum. Pretty cool stuff they got there.
