I was being serious. Stop by Strand Emporium, buy large Grolsch, walk down Strand drinking Grolsch. Replace cap on Grolsch when going into stores. Repeat as needed. Went down there yesterday. Gravity Bar has some good fruity drinks - hurricanes, daquiris, etc, not cheap but strong. Yaga's has good margaritas. The bartenders at both places hooked us up, very cool people. I will 2nd, 3rd & 4th the rec of the Saltwater Grill. Best place in town. A little out of town, but not far (on Teichman) is Clary's, go there & have the butter lump crab. It is ridiculous (haven't been in a couple of years though).
Sorry about that. I didn't realize you could drink out on the Strand. Not a big fan of Grolsch, though. Thanks for the tips. If we ate seafood, we'd try the place. Damn that threat of death...
Yep, yep, yep. There's a good italian restaurant down there, but I can't remember the name. Also a pretty famous TexMex place that's been there forever, iirc it's down around the med center. Shouldn't be hard to find.
Luigi's or Dibellas for Italian (the latter is cash/check only). Original Mexican Cafe is the name of the texmex place.
What type of bars you into? Like bars wear people sip martinis and talk stock or like a place where a bunch of 20-30's are having beer and playing darts?
This might be a nice spot for you. Nice size crowd, beer, darts, and pool. http://www.mollyspubs.com/galveston.html If you happen to be into Sushi this place is just a block away from Molly's. http://www.galveston.com/skybar/ This spot has no darts or pool tables, but usually has live music on Saturdays. www.galveston.com/yagascafe
Murphy's pub, which used to be Connollys, is nicer than Molly's. Wild Wing Cafe, while a franchise restaraunt, has got some decent happy hour specials.
Last time I was in Galveston everyone on the beach stopped and stared to their right. A mysterious black mass was approaching. Seconds later everyone bolted to their cars for cover. BEE ATTACK!
bring a dog. sit on the beach with a nice drink with a lil umbrella in it in your hand. bring a book. have the kid throw a baseball down the beach, have your dog fetch it, and repeat. put sunscreen on, and get some earmuffs so no one will bother you.
I would recommend seating heavily on the beach while poking jellyfish with a stick. Actually, there is a really cool restaurant on Postoffice St called the Saltwater Grill. The Strand is really cool for walking early in the evening.
So we ended up eating dinner at Rainforest Cafe one night. It was disappointing to me, but my 21 month old son loved the moving apes and elephants. It was a long day after going through 3 of the pyramids at Moody Gardens. the second day was spent at the beach and at the hotel pool. We then went to a great Italian place called Mario's. The food was fantastic. The service was a bit lacking, but the food made that not matter. We decided against going to the Strand since we were a little farther away than I thought we'd be. Instead we went to this dive called Woody's. It's on the water past the seawall on San Luis Pass. It's was a cool laid back locals place, except for the $12 pitchers of Dos XX. The major drawback to the weekend was the amazing amount of seaweed on the beach. It was literally piled up about 2' high all the way down. A few locals said they had never seen it that bad before.
