I’m not aware of what other teams can offer, I would speculate to get to 7, it would take Wood, EG, plus additional assets and taking crap we don’t want from them. It wouldn’t be worth it for 7 imo. I’d put an offer out for sure though and see if they bite. I’m more optimistic we can leverage Wood to get to 13 or 15 at minimum. I think he tanked his trade value last year.
Sorry, posted this in the wrong thread. https://apple.news/A2-NhtkpBRz6-BZGkTLrSyg interesting wood trade proposal, but doesn’t do much for us. Trade Idea: Houston Rockets trade F/C Christian Wood to Memphis Grizzlies for F/C Brandon Clarke, PG De'Anthony Melton and 2022 first-round pick (No. 22 overall via Utah Jazz) New Superteam Core: Ja Morant, Christian Wood, Jaren Jackson Jr. and Desmond Bane (with Dillon Brooks and Steven Adams) Finishing with the second-best record in the NBA wasn't enough to get the Grizzlies out of the second round, where a more experienced and talent-rich Golden State Warriors squad disposed of them in six games. While the backcourt in Memphis is set with Ja Morant, Desmond Bane and Dillon Brooks, the frontcourt was exposed against Golden State. Outside of Jaren Jackson Jr., the Grizzlies used a center-by-committee featuring Steven Adams, Xavier Tillman Sr. and Brandon Clarke. Adding a premier offensive threat like Wood next to an elite defender in Jackson would be an ideal combination for Memphis and allow the team to mix-and-match assignments as needed. Wood, 26, is still young enough to grow with this Grizzlies team and is coming off a season where he averaged 17.9 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and shot 50.1 percent overall. While Adams, Clarke and Tillman combined to make 15 three-pointers all season (on 20.8 percent efficiency), Wood is an excellent floor spacer who made 39.0 percent of his 336 attempts. Having both big men able to expand their offensive games beyond the arc in Wood and Jackson opens up even more driving lanes for Morant and Co. For a franchise already rising in the West, adding Wood officially makes Memphis a superteam. For Houston, moving Wood now before he hits free agency nets the team a good, young big man in Clarke who's coming off an impressive playoff showing (12.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 61.5 percent shooting in 24.7 minutes) and has another year left on his rookie deal before becoming a restricted free agent. Melton, 24, gives Houston a potential franchise point guard, and the Rockets pick up another first-round pick in the 2022 draft to assist with their rebuild.
In a vacuum, no. But since we have been apparently trying to avoid getting an extra pick in this draft and don’t have the roster space for 3 more rookies, and since no one thinks we can use extra picks this year to move up, I doubt our front office will see this as an offer worth taking.
I think his value is significantly higher than just moving up 2-4 spots in the middle of the round. Its like everyone is overlooking the stats, his being one of 4 players in the entire league to average 10 boards and shoot 39%+ from deep. Offensively he's the unicorn big every team is seeking. Portland is desperate to keep Dame .... They don't want to be where are. Portland could take Wood into cap space - not sending anything out in return. Thats a big factor into why they would choose Wood over other players. He's on a great contract that allows them quite a bit of flexibility to acquire even more help. Worst case they send Bledsoe back, but he's only guaranteed $3.9m which is an easy cut or buyout. If they are worried about it just being a one year rental, they can make the trade contingent upon him signing an extension - at a figure they are comfortable with. The one big negative everyone points to is his not going back into that game .... hell, I'd have been frustrated too and I'd question the sanity of anyone who wasn't frustrated with that situation. I really don't see this as the big deal that the rest of you do .... Yes, his defense sucks. Lastly, looking around the league, I don't see a better player that is available for Portland that moves the needle as much as Wood might .... there's no stars / superstars on the move from any of these other bottom dweller teams who would be looking for draft picks over current players. Orlando & OKC have nothing to part with. Sacramento is in win now mode. Detroit - Jerami Grant ? Doubt they are moving him. That would be taking a step backwards. Indiana - Myles Turner possible I guess but they don't have #17 and Wood is statistically better (offensively). Lakers - LOL they suck, maybe they offer a broken down AD? I would laugh at them. San Antonio - several interesting players but don't see them giving up immediate talent for #7 and starting the tank. Not their MO. Washington is also in win now mode. You might get #10 straight up for Wood (and salary match). Can't see the Knicks dealing - they aren't sending Randle for 7. Charlotte could deal Oubre & Plumlee but is that a better offer than Wood ? Cleveland isn't dealing any of their young guys, might get KLove out of them but he's not a financial fit, not to mention injury history. New Orleans - would they deal Zion? Atlanta - No. Brooklyn - LoL. Chicago - No. Minnesota - No. Toronto - No.
I’ve seen a fair amount of Charlotte proposals that have PJ Washington coming back to us. But from a minutes perspective, trying to fit PJ into the 4/5 rotation creates the same logjam with Wood: Paolo-Sengun-KJ-Garuba. The trade should be CHA- Wood, Tate HOU- Plumlee, #13 Come away with Banchero, Eason, and Mark Williams. A+ draft.
And I'd send PJ, Plumlee or even EGo to Hawks for Jalen Johnson + salary dump. Let's go FULL REBUILD.
I personally think Wood held back the development of the team. No defense. Didn't know what a pass is. Didn't try to get Green involved. The list goes on and on. I am not saying he isna bad player, but he is bad for a developing team. If you put him on a team with more developed players he will probably thrive.
You would have to buy one of them out. I would not waste 2 roster spots on 2 guys who aren't playing. 1 is bad enough.
Curious who the 3rd best offensive player was in Wood's absence and what was the average points per game differential.
Wood is 2nd best big in pick and pop. Remember when everyone wanted to trade for Love - Wood is better.
