Wood is going to get traded. He just does not fit this teams timeline. He will probably get moved draft night for a pick and cap space. Mavs or Suns if they lose Ayton could use him
https://airalamo.com/posts/athletic-no-brainer-san-antonio-spurs-trade-christian-wood This was written in alamo paper, not a bad trade at all. Collins is no scrub, would work well. Collins not a bust might start peaking in time rockets do. Also Langford could develop here at SF at 6-6. plus the #20 pick. Not a bad get.
Was looking at a few mocks and I would LOVE this trade because from the mocks I'm looking at, it would be possible for us to pick up two of Jeremy Sochan, Tari Eason or Mark Williams with these picks. I even saw a mock that had Jalen Duren dropping to 13. If we left this draft with Paolo and two defensive studs like any of those guys, I'd be over the moon. And Paolo isn't even the guy I want out of the top 3, but adding two guys like that would make me a lot less nervous about his defense.
Listen, I'm with you on his talent and capabilities. And while I've seen a lot of people say he's not a winning player, I haven't given up hope that he can be a winning player on the right team. But where I have given up hope, is that team being the Rockets. Do I believe if he were traded to the team like the Warriors he might fall in line behind Steph and Draymond? I think there is a very good chance of that. But there is absolutely NO way he is going to accept being a third option behind a 20 year old Jalen Green and a 19 year old Paolo Banchero (or Chet or Jabari). It's just unsurprising that he views this team as his because he's the oldest and most experienced of our young core. I think they've got to get what value they can for him while they can. I don't see him doing anything but getting in the way of the development of Jalen and Paolo for us.
I say keep him until the trade deadline if you can’t find a deal that you like by the draft. Let him start with whoever the #3 pick (assuming it’s Banchero) and let Sengün be the 6th man until Wood is traded
Each day I'm getting more resigned to the likely possibility that the Rockets will be drafting Paolo Banchero with the 3rd pick. He might not fit as well as Jabari Smith nor Chet Holmgren but there is no denying Paolo's talent especially on offense. Getting some stud defensive players in exchange for Wood is definitely a win. The draft picks would fill the defensive holes on the roster. Tari Eason/Jeremy Sochan and Jalen Duren/Mark Williams is a nice haul. C: Sengun, M.Williams PF: Banchero, Martin, Garuba SF: Gordon, Tate, Eason SG: Green, Mathews, Nwaba PG: Porter, Christopher, Nix, Wall
I think this is the most likely scenario. Unfortunately the rest of the league doesn’t share Stone’s value on Wood. He really hurt himself last year with his attitude; his rep around the league is not good. I have a feeling this is gonna end like Oladipo. Stone will hold onto him too long because he thinks he’s worth more than he is, then he’ll trade him for whatever he can get at the deadline; which won’t be much.
There's murmurings that Morey and company are going to exercise Danny Green's option next season as a show of good faith after his injury. if so it's possible we get him and cut him for some sweeteners.
Well sure, but if Stone is resigned to let Gordon go, he's been known to send vets to contenders without getting much in return i.e. Tucker, Oladipo.
Would you do that trade for just the 13: Wood /17 for Plumlee/13 I would have to do it, I don't see anyway they give both 13 and 15
I would. I just couldn't help but get excited about the idea of possibly grabbing both a potentially elite 3D guy and a potentially elite rim protector in addition to Paolo when I saw that proposed trade idea. But if I had to I would do that. Getting one of those guys is a nice consolation prize.
Hard to believe we’ll get great value for Wood. Which player would want to play with Wood after seeing his attitude on defense and offense in games? Which coach is dying to get the guy who thinks he’s a franchise player into a role player spot? Plus his contract expiring and has shown zero loyalty to his teams in the past. Would be good to get any future lottery pick for him. I think Stone will trade him, they are going to try hard to tank again next season but a Sengun/Green core won’t win less than 30.
This is absolutely the deal to make. Hornets get: Christian Wood Nets 2022 1RP (17) Rockets get: Mason Plumlee Pelicans 2022 1RP (13) Hornets 2022 1RP (15) I'd even throw in Tate or 2023 Bucks FRP for JT Thor.
A pick in the mid 20's would be enough for me. Jaylin Williams would be a great addition. Can play the 4 or 5. Nice big off the bench. Nice offensive game. Has great vision. Good shooter with an improving 3. Checks all the boxes on the other end. Non stop motor. Hustles. Drew 48 charges in his 2 years at Arkansas. All Defensive Team as a sophomore.
JT Thor would be an interesting trade target but not liking the exchange if it cost the 2023 Bucks likely late FRP. Thor was a 2021 high SRP but didn't really get to prove his value was above that. Tate is at least a known commodity that may/should be valued more than Thor currently which may help in the Hornets giving up 2 FRPs. *And I messed up the order of the Pelicans and Hornets though it really doesn't matter as the Hornets own both. Hornets get: Christian Wood Jae'sean Tate Nets 2022 1RP (17) Rockets get: Mason Plumlee JT Thor *Hornets 2022 1RP (13) *Pelicans 2022 1RP (15) If the Rockets do pull off this trade then the Rockets will need to make some more trades because of limited roster spots unless the make some buyouts.
I keep reading people make this statement or that we'll be out bid for pick X but I don't see a team giving up a player clearly better than Wood. What are some deals you see out there that are clearly better than the package of Wood & 17 for pick X ? (Or better than some of the other packages the Rockets can put together including Wood, 17 ,EG, Tate, Nwaba, Milw23)
