You are seriously overrrating the value of a # 8 lottery player, especially one in a weak draft that has a history of disappearing for long stretches of games. This is about giving Yao and McGrady a complimentary player for a championship.

Actually he can catch and shoot. He doesn't have a great 3 pt. shot, but his mid range jumper is great. Excellent/fundamental form and all. While everyone talks about his amazing athletic ability, his fundamental skills and shooting are the things that make it highly unlikely that he'll be a bust. And by bust I mean a guy that gives you 10/5 for his career.

Not to compare their games, but I can see the role of Shane Battier on the Rockets bears to resemlance to:

    Shandon Anderson on the Rockets.

Someone plays some D, grabs some boards, hit some shots, but can't make an impact on either end of the floor.

    Exactly !!!

And yes, we have closed the gap on the Spurs and Mavs....Yao will be one year better, Tmac will be healthy and with a couple of key free agent signings we will be RIGHT THERE BABY !

Memphis is thinking how much cheaper they are getting Stro for compared to what they offered him last season. They offered him more money than we could last year but he signed with us due to McGrady lobbying him. I honestly dont understand their logic here but at least we managed to get Stro off of the team.

I wouldn't call losing Rudy Gay and Stromile "10/5" Swift while gaining Shane "10/5" Battier closing the gap on anyone.

Swift was not a starter and not a significant contributor, in fact you could argue that getting rid of him and giving his minutes to Hayes makes the Rockets better.

Battier gives us a lot more flexibility in our starting team, and a great complimentary player to Yao and Tmac, if you don't see that, then I can't help you.

im not surprised that the rockets made this dumb ass move. i been preaching that the rockets suck at trading players on draft night for the longest.

i bet stro is gonna produce in memphis. most of the players we signed last off season are now gone. what a waste of time and money.

next ill bet the rockets will trade rafer alston for chucky atkins.

I don't consider what you described closing the gap on the Spurs and Mavs. You should also throw in the Suns.

we've made the playoffs once and didn't get out of the first round. Tmac and Yao with some talent around them, now we're talking. Unfortunately we don't have much talent around them. That's why this trade is awful.

Rockets are only dreaming of championship in the near future. Not going to happen with the moves they make. We don't have the brilliance other teams in the NBA have. Drafting Bostjan Nachbar..trading for Eddie Griffin...the Rockets have proven they are different than normal NBA teams.

It 's meaningless for your guys to argue the future of Rudy Gay, all star or bust, you name it now. But the real difference is, West and Grizz mgmt has the gut to make mistake, CD and Rox mgmt doesn't have.

You look Dallas, only one season ago almost no one can deny we are the same category team with them, but now it's hard for you to deny we are way behind them. They have defeated pesky Spurs in the 7 playoff game showdown and almost got the title if they didn't mixed it up in the last crunch. They only have one superstar, but you can see the difference their young studs like Howard, Harris etc have made, this makes them strong contender in the following years. How drooling if Rox can have a couple of such energetic young talents. In the middle of last season, it seemed the season was over because of injuries, it was time to develop young talents for the future, no one could be developed. Rox was desperately in need of fresh blood, but we didn't have enough asset to make the trade to bring in. Now we have the terrific chance to "make mistake", they rescinded and brought a "known commodity" that JVG likes. Battier is a much safer pick than that of Gay, but the history has told us when you count the result finally, you may often have a backfired feeling.

Rudy Gay may turn out to be a bust, Jerry West may be wrong, I don't think the fans will blame them to have such kind of try, but the shortsightness of CD and the Rox mgmt has proven they may also not at the same category with thier Memphis fellows.

I think someone said it best, Shane Battier is a taller David Wesley. Not sure if 7 inches on Wesley will make us a contender. ;)
