Well, Eddie Griffin gave us 9/6 in his rookie season, at the same age that Gay will be when he starts playing for an NBA team. That is about the same as Battier's likely production. I would happily take that much from Gay; it would be enough to win us many games. Furthermore, Gay's athletic defence might be crucial in the playoffs. So this is yet another reason I am in mourning.
Perhaps, but we know what we are going to get in Battier, and having that on a team with Yao and Tmac is a good thing. Can Gay catch and shoot? Because that is what is going to happen on the Rockets. DD
Well, I hope so too. But we could have done the same even if we had kept Gay. I just can't believe how badly we have blown a historic opportunity.
F*** THE ROCKETS....................IM DONE SUPPORTING ANYTHING THEY DO AND ANY TEAM THEY PUT OUT THERE FOR NEXT SEASON..........I CANT ROOT FOR AN ORGANIZATION IF THEY THEMSELVES DONT WANT TO WIN.......... TRACY MCGRADY IS MY FAVORITE PLAYER AND ITS SAD THAT HE'LL NEVER BE ABLE TO REACH THAT NEXT LEVEL BECAUSE F**KING MANAGEMENT ALWAYS F**KS HIM IN THE ASS.........then people wonder why his back is hurting...... "its from having to carry every team hes be on ON IT"...... and f*ck jerry west too, he knew that was a ridiculous trade...he's on the radio BRAGGIN about how he shafted the rox and how they were poppin champaigne in the draft room......so the grizzlies (a playoff team) get stro, RUDY GAY, and kyle lowry in the first round......and the rox (a lottery team) get SHANE BATTIER?!?!?! and ill even be as bold to say F*** ANYBODY who supports this trade too. IM DONE
I think you are just trying to pick a fight. I want a fight but with Rox management not you. Anyway, I am not sure he picked Battier, but I give you some bullets here -- he did draft Hakim Warreck -- who is still unproven. However that is a 20th pick. But all in all, whatever Jerry West touches, mostly it becomes gold. Therefore, the common sense for ANYONE should be just refuse the trade and keeep the pick. I guess CD is not a common man. He is an idiot.

I think an even better analogy is that of poacket aces in hold'em...the rockets folded and sent our pocket aces to memphis wher I's sure they will find the third or maybe fourth ace. This organiztion was better off with the simplistic mindset fo Rudy...I know Rudy would have Busted CD on the head..."You crazy old man?" BAMMMM THis wasnt too difficult. Think about it...Tracy MacGrady mentoring his splitting image...it would be like haveing a TMac all over again. I have a hard time, from a business standpoit , trying to figure out how this organization plans on selling tickets because they are losing so much of the fan base that has always believed in them. It will be hard to watch this product on TV much less pay 50 bucks to see it in person. My cheap ass would have paid 100 bucks to see Yao, TMac, and Rudy Gay on the floor together. I better stop because I starting to relive that gruesome five minutes when I just started to envision convfetti in Toyota Center when it was destroyed by some old idiot on his way out the door (talk about lame duck). My throat is starting to knot up again the way it does when u want to cry and ur holdin it in. This sucks!!!!!!!!
Not everything he touched becomes gol...but whatever he cant make gold...the Rockets want. Posey, Swift , Now Battier
What's always irritated me is how people can truly believe that Rudy Gay's worst-case scenario is worse than 10 and 5. Yes, he's 19, but he's not a foreigner or a high school kid. He led a Big East power team that had 4 first rounders picked last night in scoring as a sophomore. How do people forget that? ...Maybe Daryl Morey needs to take some remedial game theory. When there are two choices with extremely close downsides, but one choice has a larger payoff, you always take the larger payoff choice (Gay and Swift).
that irks me too. Rudy Gay is one of the more polished players in this draft. Also, considered one of the best defenders in this draft so not only is his upside huge but I think he's gonna contribute from day 1. He doesn't have work eithic problems nor problems off the court.....so people can stop with the Swift and Griffin comparisons. There was no NEED to trade him....especially for Shane Battier. I think management knows they f*cked up.
You for this as soon as he is off the phone with Cd J West to his Secretary: GET THE TRAILBLAZER ON THE PHONE . . I GOTTA MAKE SURE THEY DRAFT SOMEONE FOR ME .. . I'll promise them a sweet trade later or something. . . but Foye can not be there at 8 . . . HE MUST NOT BE THERE!! Rocket River
DaDa - In your mind, Shane Battier has already closed down the talent distance between us and the Mavs & Spurs. Us debating the intrinsic value of a $4.2M player is pointless. We've already traded a #8 Lottery pick for a role player who re-signed with the Grizz for MLE money. Let's leave it at that.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- agreed. hopefully that Year One will be the year that both T-Mac & Yao were healthy and this team went to at least Western Final. silver linings of this trade are: 1) finally we have a solid defender with HEIGHT 2) T-Mac could attack the basket more as he went back to play shooting guard 3) we are able to send the all-i-could-do-is-to-dunk Stro away.
DD, do you seriously believe that Rudy Gay, the best player on a strong UConn team and highly touted draft prospect, won't put up numbers that would at least match those of Shane Battier (10/5/1)?
Thanks MemphisX for the scouting report. Aren't ya'll excited guys?!?! We got a the second coming of Mario Elie!! Let the kissing begin!
DD, I like you man, but your thought process baffles me. Sure we know what we'll get in Battier, but we also know what we will not get and that is anything beyond 10-12 and 5-6. Can Battier create off the dribble, slash, get out and run and play above the rim with the youngins? Because we need to be able to do that as well as catch and shoot if we are going to contend EVER.
I don't see how any of you can put this trade in a positive light. I agree that Battier will make us better, but I can't even see him getting us out of the first round. That is unacceptable given that we have 2 players that should be at least 2nd team All-NBA. Luther head (24th pick last year) gave us 8.8pts/3.3rbs/2.7asts in 28.9 minutes last year. All that and he is a tweener guard with nowhere near the skillset of a player like Rudy Gay. I would think that Rudy Gay would (at least should) get at least 25 minutes between SG/SF/PF next year. At the very worst he should get 8pts/4rbs/2asts. Add in Stro's 25 minutes between PF/C and 9pts/5rbs/1blk and you have 17pts/9rbs/2asts/1blk. There is no way Battier gets these totals much less eats up these minutes. And don't give me the "you can't compare 2 players to 1". You can when you are talking about a team with ZERO depth. We still have very lackluster players at PF even if Mcgrady can eat up loads of minutes at SG/SF and Battier at SF/PF. Behind that we have ZERO talent on the bench. It just doesn't make sense to trade 2 for 1 when you have no depth. The net result of this trade is that we are no better than we were two years ago (probably worse) when we lost in the first round. Also, everyone seems to overlook the fact that Battier is due $32 million over the next 5 years. THIS IS NOT A SALARY DUMP. Swift is $5.8 million per year for 3 more years if I remember correctly. So getting Battier is like extending Swift for 2 years and giving up our only loterry pick for a while for marginally better production. Even if we hated Gay so much AT LEAST GET GOOD VALUE FOR HIM. DUMP JUWAN, GET A BETTER PLAYER, SOMETHING! DONT LET JVG RUN THIS TEAM INTO THE GROUND JUST SO HE CAN SAVE HIS JOB NEXT YEAR AND CONTINUE TO LOAD THIS TEAM WITH UNATHLETIC, MEDIOCRE VETERANS THAT FIT HIS "SYSTEM". WHAT A CROCK OF ****!!!... Ok, now that I'm done venting...I support the Rockets no matter what. I just want what's best for them, and that means tough love. Don't let your love of the team dull your mind into believing that this was a good trade. Even if Rudy Gay doesn't "pan" out, he can't be any worse than Battier in a couple of years, and we could've done so much better on the open trade market. Hell, he could've replaced TMac and extended the Rocket's dominance if he became an All-Star!
