It is another story that Gay will become a star or a bust, but for the common-sense wise this is a stupid trade favors our rival at least it looks like now.
I don't think Gay's numbers will approach what Battier's numbers will be in year one, Battier due to increased playing time will likely see a spike in production just because he will be on the court more than he was in Memphis and due to the fact that he is in exactly the perfect situation for the type of player he is; expect 15 and 6 from Shane, that said Rudy will probably be around 7-8 and 4 his first year if he is lucky, Stro will be good for his typical 8 and 6.
Because someone's priority is defense.... even if that means trading away young, exciting, athletic players with tremendous upside. We apparently would have traded away LeBron...or Wade...for some mediocre veteran. I have always been supportive of the Rockets admin...NO MORE. Unless there is something yet unmentioned ...they stunk it up on this one. Maybe we should schedule July 12th parties...maybe that will be equivalent to our draft...then again, maybe not.
Battier played 35mpg last season, I don't think there will be much of an increase in playing time. But I do think he'll improve his production. Even if Battier does 15 & 6, Rudy and Swift could potentially go for 15-20ppg and 12-15rpg together, that's how I'm looking at it.
DD, how is Stro not a known commodity? How ridiculous is that your statement? Oh so Stro is now a potential? No he is a known commodity - about 10 and 5 commodity.
Then you have to see how Battier/Howard adds up. Or at least see how the number of minutes pan out..., and what position Gay plays, if much at all.
I thinks it's obvious, they're looking at the team we will likely field next year and there is no way to load it up w/ young talent for runnin, so they are re-emphasizing Defense. Of course with all those old veterans that JVG will likely load us up with, by mid-season it will be young CBA players tring to learn D anyway.
Yes, but he was not going to get better, and he could not be counted on in crunch time to do the right thing. Not a player that contributes to winning basketball, good riddance. DD
you know, for all the "defense" talk coming out of JVG's mouth, i can't think of one single defensive stopper on the Rockets...not one.
Its really too bad we lost a player like Gay who could have been a big part of our future. I really dont understand the Rockets.. We need to develop youth and become more athletic. What happened to those goals? Especially as Tmacs back becomes more of an issue as he gets older we will really be in trouble without solid draft pics for the future. J
DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE This L has quickly become more offensive minded with the rule changes accordingly, and this backwards organization cant see that. They even just changed the basketball for more grip, and dont tell me its for the defense to get a better hold on the ball for steals. I havent seen Battier on one all nba defensive team yet. The only thing i see is excuses made for CD, who needs to retire now with this kind of thing being a constant with him. JVG wont ever allow HOU to see young legit players. I dont know why he's still here in the 1st place. The guy has had more chances than any other coach in the L, no matter if they won or not.
If the league is going more offensive....why are we going more defensive wit MEDIOCRE at that!?!?!!?! why are we going backwards backwards?
All this is riding on T-Mac now. If he's healthy we will somewhat forget about Rudy, if he's not, this is one day that will never be forgotten.
Worst of all, Swift would not sign that 8 or 9 million dollar a year extension a few years ago, so West lets him walk, and then get's him back for wayyyyyyy cheaper + a potential superstar? Ladies and Gentleman, that's how you run a motherfreaking franchise!
DaDa - No offense but Battier is a 10-5 guy. Stro does that himself. You can call Gay a bust this early if you want. But even if he is a bust, he's still a 10-5 guy that costs less than Battier. Very poorly balanced trade IMO.
That's exactly what I thought. This is the most stupid deal making I've heard. CD: Here's the list of the 5 kids that we want. If we don't get any one of them, you can have our pick. West: Wow, thanks, Carroll. I've been twisting arms trying to spy on teams ahead of us what they are trying to get. You are showing your hand without even being asked. That's a nice gift from you before your retirement. CD: You are welcome. I just want Battier. You know, he's a JVG-type guy. We've been looking for those for 3 years now without much success. West: Well, Battier has done a lot for our organization. I am not sure if trading him would be a good idea. You've got to sweeten the pot a bit. CD: How about Juwan Howard? He's very professional. A character guy for a character guy, how 'bout that? West: Are you kidding me? Howard is a shoplifter. He's no character guy. CD: Um, okay, you want Swift back? West: I know he's been a headache for your coach. But to do you a favor as MY gift for your retirement, I'll take Swift off of your hands. Hey, favor for favor, that's how we do business, don't we?
Yeah, that's BS. Both of our superstars are character guys. We don't need more character. We need more talent around our character.
