Saying that you will trade after your first five choices are gone is like when Elaine and Kramer said they would get married if none of them are married in 50 years.

Okay, I just threw up a lot in my mouth when I read that quote. Well, it is obvious that Roy and Foye were in the "Rockets Top 5" and Gay was NOT (which makes no sense to me, but anyway...) but I wonder who the other 3 were in their "Top 5".

I still don't understand the logic of doing a deal like this - why not just keep the pick and draft the BPA which was Gay?

*slams head into keyboard in frustration*

    Van Gundy wanted a veteran.

    end of story

I'm not sure I believe all the- we tried so hard to get Brandon Roy.
There is no way we were going after Brandon Roy unless Van Gundy wanted him.

my hate for the Rockets' management grows by the day especially with this trade...my hate would subside if they can sign or acquire someone who is a great scorer and rebounder who will replace the old and rusty howard....

i'm sure they were aldridge, thomas and morrison.

i'm shocked like everyone else. i'll tell you what though, i was upset when foye was taken. i didn't want gay as he's a t-mac wanna be and there are a lot of questions about him despite his "potential". foye or brandon would have been better fits for sure, we need explosiveness out of the back court. i suppose we get that now with tracy moving back to SG and battier starting at SF. let's hope there's more to the deal or that it enables us to complete the puzzle through free agency. as a pure basketball move it may not be bad at all, it is, as sooooooooooo many have mentioned, a risk valuewise. i'm just hoping for the best.

but can't we gent someone more valuable than Battier for Gay and Swift? Or at least wait?

Les and CD needs to stand up to JVG.. Larry Brown started making ridiculous player demands and he got fired..

You are correct sir, that is not how you run an organization... I thought the Rockets were pretty shrewd when it comes to keeping information close to the vest (at least with the fans they do a good job:) ).

WTF? WTF? WE need more character? Oh hell no. We need more character like we need a hole in the head. Talent is what we need, this team has character guys. They aren't getting in trouble, they just need a talent injection.

Clutch, that's EXACTLY what would have happened! The Blazers knew that was coming, wanted Roy so they headed the Rockets off at the pass.
    One pick too late.

BTW, to add a bucket of more salt.....if only we hadn't of one that Denver game at the end of the year. We would have had Roy & Swift right now. That win against Denver....so costly. But at least it gave David Wesley and Juwan Howard some nice game minutes. They could use that extra game experience! And no question the team moral got a good bost with that win!

i thought this was going to be a thread where it denied the rumors or this trade was part of a bigger one, ala three team trade

I find it pretty hilarious (in a tragic way) how the Rockets (obviously), the radio DJs and the newspaper columnists (besides Murphy, who gave us an F) are trying to spin this trade as a good thing when all of Houston fandom is pretty much unanimous that we got raped. It is as if they are running some kind of 1984-style propaganda campaign. If they repeat the lie enough times, will we believe it? "The bigger the lie, the more they believe it?" Not this time, I don't think.

Carroll Dawson is Jerry West's B**CH. Only thing he didn't give West in this trade is a corporate box in the Toyota Center.

I am hoping that when the deal is finalized that Lowery or an unprotected 1st round next year is part of the deal.

Didn't you guys get the memo? Character wins championships.

I am still thoroughly pissed about how "draft" played out. The Rockets wasted a huge opportunity to add youth, talent or at the very least get another pick, a player or anything more than just one role player.

Even an unprotected 1st next year sucks. It will likely be mid to late 20s. No where near what Rudy Gay could have been for us.

The Rockets fu**ed up big time.

I don't agree at all, we traded away 2 players with POTENTIAL, for a known commodity, and one of the players with potential could really be labeled a bust.

I will say I wanted Rudy Gay, but the more I think about it, and analyze the Roster and how Battier makes us better, smarter, and much more flexible, the happier I get.

Now if Gay turns out to be a great player, then it will be horrible for us......but who knows if that will happen, 7 teams drafting ahead of us didn't think that highly of him.

It has some bitter tastes in the mouth when reading this. You should admit West is a smart gambler, the Rox Mgmt are very stupid ones. They didn't believe Gay would slide to #8, in their scenarios they thought it was fair enough to trade a mediocre #8 pick with Stro for the freaking Battier, they didn't believe there had a good shot to get Gay at #8 when all these "five players" were gone? Even we didn't want Gay, not do the trade in a hurry, trade him after the draft for the established player, we can get better result. It is "amazing" to see their asses were kicked twice last night by the Blazers and West.

It is Yao and Tmac's team, adding Battier certainly will bring some instant helps, but such kind of trade may hurt the future of the franchise in a long run. If Yao and Tmac can keep healthy, Rox will be a hot playoff team even without Battier, if not, probably they will become the lottery team again with Battier. I can understand the "win it now" logic, but shouldn't the Rox mgmt learn some lessons from Mav's success? It is speechless to see that the "reward" of the last season agony is "Shane Battier minus Stromile Swift and minus one 1st round draft pick for Rudy Gay".

The Raptors who had the number one pick thought highly of him, it was only going to be Bargnani or him. Jerry West thought highly of him, Gay was one of his top 2 players in this draft.

Of these 8 GMs, how would you rank them:

    Collangelo
    Paxson
    Jordan/whoever
    Patterson
    Knight
    McHale
    West
    CD

    I would rank them:
    West
    Collangelo
    Paxson
the rest all suck so it doesn't matter how you rank them.

So the top 2 GMs of the bunch both thought Rudy was one of the top 2 players in this draft. so I could care less that those a$$hats didn't think highly of him.

And again, Rudy doesn't need development to be what Battier is now. He'll easily match Battier in his rookie year. His potential has nothing to do with it from my part. His baseline is Battier, his potential is all-star.
