I had to lol @ fatty's socially cumbersome attitude making him stumble blindly into a hornets nest of pho defenders on the bbs... oh man... this place is just priceless "I think I made them angry"
I would say most Pho places are generally not that great, some are decent though. Its too bad some of guys dont have a chance to try my aunt's pho. Its so good that you wouldnt even want to put in of the condiments in it.
I try not to spice up the broth too much. Instead, I learned this trick by watching some Asian guys eat pho in Austin. You take your chopsticks (or a fork, if you want to avoid a mess like I always tend to make) and you swirl a big glob of noodles on your soup spoon. Top that with a squirt of hoisin sauce and a squirt of sriracha and devour. It's like a flavor explosion with each bite.
I make a mess with my fork... I don't want to try chop sticks. I do the trick with the soup spoon, but I just dump the chili into the soup with the jalapenos. I love drinking the broth when it's spicy/hot... mmmm.... This is possibly my favorite food during winter.
^ Get a small bowl or dish, squirt Hoisin and Sirracha in it. Put the noodles and soup in your spoon, dip some meat in the sauce and top your spoon off, and put into your mouth.
I really like a good bowl of Pho. What I can tell you is that whenever I have had a cold or flu, I will go get a large bowl of Pho and I feel better the next day. Call it what you want, but it has never failed for me.
so your judging it based on how much it costs? dont question how complicated it can be unless you actually tried to make it yourself...making it somewhat tasty to others is whole nother story
Where is a good vietnamese place? I heard of a place near hong kong city mall outside of beltway 8. Anyone know of any other place?
i have lots of vietnamese friends and the pho is better when cooked at home. my friends have cooked amazing pho with really tasty broth without using MSG. Most Pho restuarants are bad to mediocre.
