I love pho. I don't know what it is about it, but I crave it (but rarely have it for some reason). I tend to dump a lot of the various chili pastes and sriracha into it, but even without it, it just tastes good. So simple, but so good. The other thing I like about it is that it doesn't taste like you swallowed a bowling ball like after you eat a hamburger and fries.
If you guys know any good Pho places around LA, please let me know. I've been craving for some, and fortunately I'm visiting Houston next month so I'll def. have some then
Pho Saigon and Pho Danh are two of the better chains around Houston. Pho Cong Ly is pretty well-known and is decent, too.
Try orange county, it has the largest Vietnamese population outside of Vietnam, so it shouldn't be too hard to find a decent place. That large bowl of pho is actually known as the "pho challenge", you finish that bowl of pho by yourself and its free. Its suppose to be 2 pounds of noodles with 2 pounds of beef. The place is called Pho Garden in San Francisco.
Westminster is synonymous with cheap and great pho (and viet food in general). There's plenty of restaurants there that the competition is high. You could probably get a super bowl for around 5 bucks. I eat that with a pinch of lime and those bean sprouts. Makes me sweat like a beast.

"The other thing I like about it is that it doesn't taste like you swallowed a bowling ball like after you eat a hamburger and fries" haha...well put.
I've had pho twice at two different places and I was very very unimpressed. It didn't suck, but I didn't see anything impressive about it at all.
God himself couldn't make a better burger and fries than In-N-Out and Whataburger suck giant sweaty donkey balls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to say that there is a global hyping up of Pho. I do believe that it is a good meal to have every now and then...but I really only eat it if a group of people are craving it. Ive never been blown away by it. I'll eat it, I"ll enjoy it, but I'll never yearn for it.
Most places have a meatless version, but it is probably still a beef broth. I know the place I mentioned earlier has a true vegetarian version that is full of fresh veggies and tofu. I don't think it's as good as the regular Pho Tai, but then again I'm not a vegetarian. http://www.yelp.com/biz/pho-one-houston
I can't think of many dishes that can consistently make me happy like a bowl of pho. Also a big fan of laksa.
