Believe me I play UT3 on both consoles and I really do see a difference with the PS3 version, more realistic textures and details on the characters. Also play with PC players so they can use their keyboard and mouse against a console controller and still compete against them. I really don't like the dualshock ps3 controller for FPS games, I rather use the bulky 360 controller.
What's with this PS3 hacked I've heard recently? Was it real or fake? Another good thing is that PS3 will be able to play 3D.

And I care because..... I never do anything rep worthy around here. I state my opinions and disagree with other opinions... and occasionally ask questions... I don't really care if I get rep on a website... that's not going to promote me as an individual. This is all just leisure time to me...
I am stunned by the turn this thread has taken. Stunned. Nero, Gamestop's website shows PS3s in stock in some of the stores. Just go there and get a few numbers to call.
True, but for consoles, there's more to graphics than the GPUs (though they do most of the work). The PS3 CPU (Cell) can help the GPU a lot in its graphics calculations (e.g., GoW 3 uses it for AA), and since it is quite a bit more powerful than the 360's CPU, it can result in better graphics overall. That said, that's usually only the case for exclusives (and IMO, PS3 exclusives are definitely have some of the best graphics, though that can also be attributed to the dev teams). For multiplatform games, developers don't usually take advantage of those methods on the PS3. In general, the 360 version will look a bit better, though lately, I think it might have gotten to the point where both are near identical. You occasionally end up with a scenario like FF XIII where the PS3 version is quite a bit better (or vice versa), but that's pretty rare.
Well, as an update, and an FYI. Was enjoying the culinary delights of Five Guys in Cypress last night, and on a whim peeked into the Best buy right there nearby, and whaddya know? They like 6 of them lying right there, the 120GB models. So I got that puppy, and the universe is a happy place again.
Any of Yall with the fat PS3's update to ver. 3.21? I almost did until I read what it was about. I was one confirmation away and my gut tells me not to. Sucks cause I was really looking forward to Super Street Fighter 4 and already preordered it. Now I wont be able to play it w/out updating, at least online. Was thinking about a Xbox360 till I saw DD's thread. Sigh..
I went ahead and updated. I didn't really have a choice because you can't play online without updating the firmware.
I have one with 2 controllers and games I don't use anymore that you can buy if you want.. I'll meet you up somewhere and you can test it to make sure it works too... Asking $200 for everything..
I use it very often. I don't care about graphics, so I can pretty seamlessly jump between console generations with no problem. I have beaten 5 PS2 games on my BC PS3 since last fall, and I still have 3 other PS2 games sitting in my room that I'd like to beat this year. I also have a list of other PS2 games that I've never played that I'd like to someday get around to playing. It really depends on what type of person/gamer you are. I'd rather have everything in one machine so that I don't have a ton of consoles, controller, and wires all around. I also don't often feel the need to rush out and buy new games the moment they come out (has only happened 3 times since 2008), and I have a backlog of PS2 games that I'd still like to play. If you are fully up to date and have played all the games that you wanted to play from past generations, or you have an aversion to older graphics, then you probably won't get much use out of it.
I'm fully updated with no problems so far. I didn't even know there was supposed to be any issues with v3.21. What are they? Actually, I think the PS3 and 360 are about even in average monthly sales. And I don't know why you are trying to argue a subjective experience. Maybe the 360 has better games if you like shooter games, but what if you don't like those types of games? I hate to state the obvious, but each console is better for different people. You could give me a 100 point long list of supposedly objective criteria for why the 360 is better than the PS3, and none of it would convince me because the PS3 has all the features and games I prioritized when I made my console purchase.
It takes away Backwards combatibility.....sike. It takes away the option to install Linux. I havent used it yet but was planning on it after trying it out on an older computer. I dont see how Sony can justify taking it away.
Me either. Its a pretty weird move. I would like to hear an explanation. I never got around to installing Linux either, never will, but still...
Apparently some hacker figured out the Sony OS and was planning on releasing the code so people could mod their system and play pirated games. Sony put in the OS fix so you could only play the official Playstation OS and not take advantage of the hacked OS. Gamespot article Can't say that I blame them, but it comes off a bit ham-fisted. It probably wouldn't seem so draconian if Sony hadn't stumbled so often this generation.
This part is interesting. What does the gov't do now with the 2200 PS3's? My guess is they don't need to update it since they aren't using it for games or access to PSN...right? . The US government also took advantage of the feature, with the Air Force ordering 2,200 of the powerful consoles to use as a linked supercomputer. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Cyber Crimes Center is using a similar system to to crack encrypted child p*rnography.
