Ah, I get it. Well... that's my only complaint... I mean, having to change the discs is pretty stupid just to watch a streaming movie.
I don't remember if something changed, but I vaguely remember reading that the Netflix deal was a bit rushed (probably went from original plans to out on PS3s in a short time span). Didn't give them time to develop a native app for the PS3. Or that's code-words for "Microsoft has exclusive rights to a native Netflix app, but maybe we'll have something later after finding loopholes and/or the deal expires." I haven't really kept up with the PS3 shortages. I remember SCEA warning about it a while back, but I thought it was a joke PR comment to try to make it seem like the PS3 was selling like hotcakes. Surprised to find out it was actually true (well, the PS3s being hard to find part). Might be due to shortages in some components (HDDs?). Maybe Sony is trying to tweak SKUs too. Thought I read that they submitted more designs to the FCC. Don't think it was intentional (this kind of thing rarely is, especially with major games coming out).
80 gig fatty @ RadioShack...Lyons Ave. 297.00 ....seen it today when I went to get the connections to start streaming my ps3 games online
I overheard a worker from gamestop that Sony made so much money from Christmas time that after X mas that don't ship alot out cause they don't want to pay alot of taxes or something.
http://www.psu.com/Sony-on-PS3-shor...ventory-in-coming-months-News--a008643-p0.php Sony has posted very strong sales figures for the PlayStation 3 over the past several months. In January , Sony pushed some 270,000 units in the U.S. That followed the incredible holiday sales worldwide. But now it appears there is a shortage of PS3s, and it may soon get worse. According to Sony Computer Entertainment America, consumer interest is quite high, and the company is working with its retail partners to meet the demand. Patrick Seybold, Sr. Director of Corporate Communications & Social Media, told PlayStation Universe that we can expect “tight inventory” in the near future. “We're working very hard with our retail partners to meet consumer interest, but the demand is tremendously high for the PS3 and we expect tight inventory in the coming months,” Seybold told us recently. We learned about this shortage, which appears to be regional, yet worldwide, firsthand as one of our staff members, who lives in Washington, was told by many local retailers he'd need to reserve a PS3 for pickup later this month. We've also heard from others, including posts on the PlayStation forums, about people having a hard time finding PS3s. It should be noted that many retailers try to run out their holiday stock and replenish after March, so that would help explain why strong PS3 sales over the past several months have impacted current supply. This shortage is also impacting the U.K. According to a recent statement by SCEUK sales director Mark Howsen, the demand for the PS3 Slim is 20 percent higher than originally anticipated. “Whilst it is hugely pleasing that PS3 Slim has been greeted so enthusiastically, we understand that this has lead to some stock issues, particularly with the 120GB model. We are doing our best to address these issues and hope to catch up in the next few weeks,” Howsen told MCV.
How long until we get the PS4? And I'm asking this seriously. I can't believe its been 3 years already - especially because there haven't been as many good titles compared to the PS2 when it was at this available for this length of time. It seems the PS3's only recently becoming worth buying - that and the 360's had the better library until recently (but only if you don't have a decent PC).

Honest question to those who are so happy to have the BC PS3's: How ofter do you play PS2 games? I still have a bunch of old PS2 games and every once in a while I think about loading one but so far it hasn't passed the thought stage. Personally I'm happy with the slim PS3 since it is quieter and uses less energy, just curious how often people actually use the BC feature or if it is just one of the things that people want 'just cause'.
I don't use it that often, but I do use it. I never finished FFXII so that gets played sometimes as well as FFVI.
I used it when I first got my PS3, but like you I never got past the thought part. I have a NCAA 07 dynasty I've always wanted to get back on, but just seems like too much work.
It was a bit rushed , but I also remember reading something on 1up and watching a Bonus Round with Pachter where they talked about this. I'm pretty sure Microsoft paid for an exclusive deal that gave them the only nav bar launch of Netflix. Sony and Nintendo were able to work around this with the disc-based solution, but they're precluded from having it launch via XMB or a channel without the disc. I have no idea how long that exclusivity lasts.
Not as much as I used to now that my PS3 library is built up somewhat, but I also don't play games as much as I used to. Sometimes a new PS3 game is a bit much from a time perspective, and I'd much rather fire up an old PS2 game. I probably play 3-4 a year and usually old favorites that aren't challenging, just a fun, nostalgic ride (Psychonauts, Jak, Ratchet, Sly, Prince of Persia). However, the last generation game I most want to play is the first Metroid Prime game off the trilogy that was retrofitted for Wii controls.
Well then... yeah as an entertainment system is leads... as a GAME system its behind. That's what I was trying to question. If Xbox also adds a blu-ray player... (if it even can)... the same would happen with it. Project Natal will be Xbox's booster. And there's a deal today for a PS3 Slim... http://slickdeals.net/permadeal/31458/Playstation-3-Slim-120GB-Console-269-or-261
I do play the Xenosaga games on occasion (still been trying to finish that...) and my fiance still plays DDR fairly often. I wouldn't say I would pay extra for it these days, but I'm stil glad I have it.
Not sure I would trust that.. *Preliminary* ship date 3/23/2010 Which means they don't have it and they don't know when they will get them, but they will gladly take my money now.. sigh
How is the PS3 behind in games. In terms of exclusives, the PS3 has more games and more variety while the 360 has a gazillion shooter games. Some of the best games on the 360 are also available on PC (and better on the PC too). Both Natal and the PS3 wand look like they'll be completely pointless for the time being. It's just another attempt to grab some audience from the Wii owners and it'll probably fail at doing it.
