Well, let's see, he 1. isn't on the CNT 2. doesn't go to CNT practices 3. has no first- or second- hand knowledge of what kind of specialized coaching Yao receives from the CNT As opposed to the opposite theory about Ewing, from people who: 1. aren't on the Rockets 2. don't go to Rockets practices 3. have no first- or second-hand knowledge of what kind of specialized coaching Yao recieves from Ewing.
Are you saying that Ewing (and for that matter the whole coaching staff) should not be criticized because we, as fans, don't attend practices? All we do know is that Ewing was hired especially to make Yao a better NBA player. I think it is fair to say that he has not done that.
I think it's fair to say that you have no clue whether he has or hasn't. Which you don't. But if you just want to look at empirical evidence, then be my guest. Pre Ewing 13.2 points, 8.2 boards Post Ewing 17.6 points, 8.3 boards Must be all Ewing. Man Yao is lucky to have him.
Whatever dude. You know that's bs. Hire Ewing= +5 ppg for your center! Makes no sense. Players never naturally improve upon their rookie year stats - it's all coaching. I may be mistaken since I'm new - but aren't you one who criticizes Yao's play a lot? Ewing is to be blameless in this? Or is Yao really just that bad of a center in your estimation.
It's funny to me when a guy with 9,000 posts pretty much tells me not to have an opinion on my team. I bet in those 9,000 posts you might have posted an opinion or two. This is a message board last I checked, and if Im not mistaken, we are allowed to post our personal opinion. Your right though, I'm not a member of the Rockets or a member of the CNT, but it is obvious that................. One : All the traveling he is forced to do and basketball he is forced to play pretty much year round is not good for him, he gets no rest. and Two: China does not come close to having the same talent that we have in the United States.
Patrick Ewing is the coach with the least seniority on the bench. When he was brought in there was an article about how he would be a mentor to Yao. So I think there were expecations that Ewing would mold Yao in a similar manner to the way Moses did Hakeem. That and the fact that he was a big rival in the 94 Finals have made people have expectations of him higher than are warranted for a guy who is the last coach on the bench.
it occurs to me that you are taking way more from his posts than he intended. he was referring to the person that was argueing that you dont know what is really going in with the CNT obligation.... once you have been reading Sams posts for as long as I have....you realize that he rarely comes straight out with his point...you have to look for the meaning....which you didnt....you jumped to conclusions
Agreed. It's total BS, that's why I cited it. So if it's BS to ascribe any improvement to Ewing, it's not BS to point the finger at him (with no evidence whatsoever) for.......etc? does not compute. Who's bad? When did I ever say he was bad? For god's sake he's not bad, he's the second best true center in the league, any idiot knows that. He's not good at certain things (which, IMO, are due to physical limitations - he's slow to react, slow to jump, and has lousy hands) but by no means is he bad. Perhaps Ewing should be blamed, perhaps he shouldn't. The point is that very few people here have any basis on which to make such a judgment, as you can see from the example above, circumstantial evidence can go both ways. R2K, thank you for being my "irony to english" translator!
I heard that they used to throw bananas on the court when he was at Georgetown. Can anyone confirm this?
Sorry about that. Probably have you mixed up with someone else. I do not think Ewing is doing a good job because Yao seems to have regressed in some areas. He used to be a better passer and outside shooter. I suppose it isn't fair to blame it all on Ewing and - after reading back a little - some of the posts here about him are pretty vindictive and unfair. I can understand why you defend him. Fact is, if Yao is getting bad advice/coaching (JVG, Ewing, CCP) from whoever, he'll have to take it upon himself to improve.
