the question on the poll is: "When you think of Houston which team comes to mind" so I always think about the rockets, because basketball is my fave sport.

I dont live in Houston, but I think its more about the texans, and about football.
the people left the rockets bandwagon especially this season when no big names came here in the offseason. and with Yao hurt too.

I think it's a tie between baseball and football. Even though attendance may not be that good at MMP this coming season, people seem to complain the most about the Astros which shows people actually care. When the Rockets hit a rough spot most people seem to be apathetic in my opinion.

    Truer words were never spoken.
Born and raised here and the first caps and shirts you see are those of whomever is winning. If no Houston team is kicking a$$, out comes the Yankees and Cowboys crap...
And now since Young is playing again, we have to listen that BS...

I hardly see Yankees stuff and barely any Cowboys things. Also, this shouldn't come as a surprise since Houston is a fast growing city. So many people moving here from across America + the world. Most cities follow whoever is winning the most. Houston is not unique.

    2. Astros
    3. Rockets

Oilers win 12 games...lose to Chiefs in playoffs

Rockets roll off 15 in a row before winning the title.

this was true before the new stadiums were built. i don't see it as true anymore. (not saying it's because of the stadiums...just using that as a reference point)

1994 the Rockets won and the Astros were only .5 game out in the division when the strike ended the season.

1997 Astros won the Central, and Rockets made it to WCF.

At the beginning of 1999, both Astros & Rockets were pre-season contenders, unfortunately Pippen did not work out, and the Rockets were never truly a contender.

1981 Rockets went to the NBA finals, Astros made the playoffs.

    insert Homer facepalm here.

to the OP: dude, you posted this on the Clutch City board. methinks the responses will be different if you post it at whatever other boards are out there for the other sports.

Yea I honestly expected the Rockets to run away with this, but the results were actually fairly close.

honestly, i think only people on a rockets-based message board would expect the Rockets to run away with this.

ask these questions to the general population of houston, and i'd be shocked if the rockets were ahead of either the 'stros or the Texans.

    Depends on who you gauge.

I think if you poll people who don't live here, they would go with the Rockets, believe it or not.

Seems like there are people dressed in Rockets gear in every NBA arena. And it's not always Yao Ming gear either.

That's true of all our teams...you can always find someone in a Houston jersey when we're playing on the road. The local broadcasts do a great job of finding them and putting them on the screen, too.

I think the question in the thread though is: what team is the dominant one in Houston...the one we identify with the most as Houstonians. I THINK that's what he's asking.
