Elson looks good as an alternative to Deke, but I'm not so sure about Pargo. I think he's a chucker, and if you want chucking PGs off the bench, then why not go with Brooks? Not like Pargo is a huge upgrade in size over him anyway and Brooks is cheaper. A rotation of Alston - Brooks - Barry at the point is solid. Tmac could play there in a big lineup too if need be. The thing with Landry's situation still remains a headache I think...We can't touch the MLE to resign Deke with until the Landry thing gets sorted out. Otherwise Landry could just sign with some other team for minimally more than the amount we have left at the end of the day, and we're screwed. And if we really want Deke, I think we definitely need more than the vet's minimum. Blame it all on Buddy Baker's posturing.
I think Pargo showed he could be a steady hand at the point when Paul was injured two years ago. Granted, this is the same Pargo that wouldn't stop shooting the Hornets out of the playoffs this past June but I'm believing that he's probably learned some humility after that atrocious performance.
we should get a backup c since artest can play 4 and we probably wont even need landry and we have dorsey
Did anyone actually see Darrell Armstrong play last year? Does he still have any gas in the tank? I always wanted him as a backup PG, but he's 40 yrs old now. But if he's still capable of running an offense and playing good team D for 8-10 minutes per night (you give the other backup PG minutes to Barry), then I'd sign him to a cheap, one-year deal. Again, that assumes he can still play. And I wouldn't ever want to rely on him for anything other than spot minutes.
Wikipedia Mid-level exception A team is allowed to sign one player to a contract equal to the average NBA salary, even if the team is over the salary cap already, or if the signing would put them over the cap. This is known as the Mid-level exception (MLE). The MLE may be used on an individual free agent or split among multiple free agents, and is available regardless of where a team stands with respect to the salary cap. The Mid-Level Exception for the 2007-08 NBA season was $5.36 million. The MLE is $5.585 million for the 2008-09 NBA regular season. An example would be the Toronto Raptors' acquisition of three-point specialist Jason Kapono during the 2007 off-season.
Mutombo has had a great career, it is about time for him to let a younger man gain experience and it is time for the Rockets to firm up the immediate future team with a decent back up center. Thank you Mutombo for your great contributions to NBA History! Possibly you might like to work as a coach or in the office?
1. RonRon might be just a 1 yr rental 2. With MLE money, 3 to 6 mil, we can not sign anyone in the market we know it's def better than Landry. so I say still sign him.
I just saw that Michael Finley is a Unrestricted free agent.. I know I know he's old but he still has game and his numbers prove it. Very efficient for a player that only plays 20-25 min. He still can stroke it from downtown (3pt)
See what the Spurs fans say about him over on their fan forum. Then you'll know why he's an unwanted man in San Antonio. Can't guard anyone anymore, and a streaky jumpshot. Pass.
Streaky or not he still can shoot.. And he shoots less than 9 shots a game on average... We have some threats on this team and if we find out Michael is having a night off .. BENCH him.. His salary was 3 mil last year.. I'm pretty sure he can be had for that or even less. We are not wanting him for his defense we are needing him as an alternative offensive option on the bench.. You think Brent Barry is going to drain 3's after 3's every single night? I believe he's another low risk high reward guy. Remember he's just a spark (with shooting)
What about a guy like Delonte West for part of the MLE. I think he is a restricted FA, but Cleveland doesnt seem to be offering what he wants. Give the guy about 2-3 mil per. Others I wouldnt mind: Salim Stoudamire Lindsey Hunter Sam Cassell Jannero Pargo
