The Isreal-Palestine situation is never going to be solved to everyone's satisfaction, and it won't stop being a convienient scapegoat for the rest of the mid-east unless Israel is completely eliminated. If that is the only solution, then there is no solution. We should split up the country, build bases in Kurdistan to station our troops in, and let the Shiites and the Sunnis duke it out. If we could get some land out of Turkey and Iran, all the better. Even better may be to fold the Shia areas of Iraq into Iran and the Sunni areas into their nearest Sunni majority neighbor (Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia), although that has the unfortunate side-effect of giving a bunch of rich oil fields to Iran.
Yeah, a Dem Congress will let Bush marinate as long as there's powerful members in their party who initially supported the invasion, if in name only (Hillary). They're not unified, and their plan is reactionary.
Yeah, a Dem Congress will let Bush marinate as long as there's a division between the members who are totally against the war and the members who are trying to justify their initial support for it. They're not unified, and their plan is reactionary. Bush is doing their work for them.
As I've said before there is no good solution to Iraq. I think we have to leave and possibly sooner rather than later as any progress we make seems to also be sabotaged that our own presence encourages further attacks. I still think we need to figure out some way of getting some sort of multi-national force in there that can act as a neutral security force unfortunately I'm not sure how possible that is now.
Nothing good will come out of this war. I don't think democrats have good ideas. Nobody has. We are in a no-win situation. But at least we should hold the administration accountable for putting us in this situation, we are better off with another administration that is honest about the situation instead of telling the "we are making great progess" lie again and again.
